Clallam County seeks volunteers for various boards, committees

Application deadline set for July 20 to fill several vacancies

The Board of Clallam County Commissioners announces openings on advisory boards and committees.

Interested citizens are invited to contact the Clallam County commissioners office at 417-2233, visit the commissioners office in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, or get an application online at www.clallam.net/Board/assets/applets/Boards_and_Committees_Full_Application.pdf.

Applications must be received by close of business July 20.

• Animal Issues Advisory Committee (five openings) — Serves as a liaison between the county and the contractor for animal shelter services and as an objective, fact-finding body when the board, the contractor, or the Sheriff’s Office requests the advice of the committee. Openings for a representative of District III (West End), tribal government, veterinarian, at-large and Friends of Forks Animals.

• Building Code Board Of Appeals (two openings) — Hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the Building Official relative to the application and interpretation of the codes adopted in Clallam County Code 21.01, Building and Construction Code. Openings for an architect and for an alternate who must be either a general contractor, ICC certified fire marshal, fire inspector or fire plan examiner.

• Clallam Bay/Seiku Community Action Team (one opening) — Serves to enhance communication with county government to more efficiently facilitate and convey community desires to the Planning Commission. There is an opening for a senior community member.

Developmental Disabilities Advisory Committee (three openings) — Volunteers act in an advisory capacity to plan and make recommendations to the board of commissioners and the Department of Health and Human Services regarding programs and services for persons who have mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, other neurological impairments, or developmental disabilities and their families through service contracts with provider agencies.

• Heritage Advisory Board (one opening) — Advises the Clallam County commissioners on various matters related to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the county. There is an opening to fill an unexpired term for a member residing within District II (Port Angeles area).

• Homelessness Task Force (five openings) — Advises the Clallam County commissioners on various matters related to the issues regarding homelessness in Clallam County. There are openings for members of the following categories: health care providers, faith community, business community, at-large and an advocate for youth issues.

• Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (one opening) — Statute requires an advisory committee to review all proposed changes to expenditures from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund and to make recommendations to the board of commissioners. There is an opening for the collector of the tax category.

• Noxious Weed Control Board (two openings) — Oversees the control and eradication of noxious weed infestations in the county. There are openings for a representative of Geographic Area 1 which is the area east of the Dungeness River to the eastern county boundary including the communities of Sequim and Dungeness and specific territory in the Olympic National Park, and a representative of Geographic Area 2 which includes the area west of the Dungeness and east of Morse Creek, including the areas around Carlsborg and Agnew and specific portions of national forest land and territory in the Olympic National Park.

• Park And Recreation Advisory Board (four openings) — Assists the county in delivery of park and recreation services to its residents and visitors. Under the direction of the board of commissioners through the director of Parks, Fair and Facilities, the advisory board holds public meetings as necessary, advises and assists the county in developing reasonable rules, fees and regulations for the operation of county parks and other recreational facilities, and reviews park acquisitions and development strategies.

Permit Advisory Board (three openings) — Makes recommendations to the board of commissioners and director of the Department of Community Development for changes in the building code and permitting. There are openings for representatives of the building trades, the Homebuilders’ Association, and a propane/woodstove contractor.

• Sheriff’s Citizens Advisory Committee (five openings) — Advisory to the Sheriff’s Office to provide an open link of communication between the Sheriff and the community. There are openings for representatives from the unincorporated area surrounding Port Angeles, Forks and unincorporated area, and from the Quileute Tribe, the Makah Tribe and the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.
