A test of the All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) Sirens, often called the Tsunami Sirens, in Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor and Pacific Harbor counties is set for noon today, Monday, Dec. 3.
Local residents may hear the sound of the Winchester Chimes for about 30 seconds, then be followed by a voice message confirming this has been a test. Those in close visual range of the physical tsunami sirens also will see a blue light flashing from the top of the siren.
To receive emergency notifications when indoors, the NOAA All Hazard Broadcast Radios is a good tool, emergency responders say, and have better reception if placed in a north-facing window.
CLALLAM ALERT-Code Red in Clallam and NIXLE in Jefferson County are free emergency notification subscription services for individuals and agencies in these respective counties that provide a voice, text, and/or email alerts to make citizens immediately aware of an emergent condition in their area as it occurs or is anticipated to impact an area.
(The inside notification test of NOAA AHAB radios will be conducted throughout Clallam County and Jefferson County at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 5; each Wednesday at noon is the weekly test date for the NOAA AHAB radios that many Olympic Peninsula residents have inside their homes and businesses, and this will be a voice only test of the NOAA alert systems.)
