Clallam County Charter Review Commission is holding another set of public hearings in June.

Clallam County Charter Review Commission is holding another set of public hearings in June.

What is the county charter and why does the county have it? The Clallam County League of Women Voters will help explain by holding informative sessions before the next three Charter Review hearings on “Our County Charter in Context.”

The County Charter Review Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. June 1 at Forks City Hall, June 15 at the Sequim Transit Center and June 29 in the commissioner meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.

The League-sponsored presentation will precede the commission hearings at 5 p.m. in Forks and Sequim and at 4:30 p.m. in Port Angeles.

The Clallam County Home Rule Charter fits within a system of state, local and federal law and holds a special place as a “local constitution.”

Join lawyer Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin for a presentation and discussion on what this means in regard to what is in the county charter and what to consider when changing it.

Schromen-Wawrin grew up in Port Angeles and now works as a constitutional law and civil rights attorney. His practice currently focuses on issues of government authority and accountability. He holds a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law and a B.A. from Oberlin College.

The League of Women Voters of Clallam County is a nonpartisan political organization and encourages the informed and active participation of all citizens in government.
