The Clallam County Democrats kick off their 2014 convention at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the party’s office, 124-A W. First Street, Port Angeles.

Roger Fight, a Sequim resident and acting chairman of the Clallam County Democrats, said the purposes of the convention will be to elect delegates to the state party convention in June and to consider the adoption of resolutions and the county platform.

Immediately following the convention, there will be a separate meeting of the county Democratic Central Committee — including all elected precinct committee officers — in order to select a new chairman of the county party, Fight said.

Pat Johansen of Sequim resigned as chairman last week because of family health issues, a party press release stated. (After Johansen’s resignation at a party executive board meeting last Thursday, the board voted to appoint Marcia Farrell of Port Angeles as acting vice chairman.)

All registered voters who identify themselves as Democrats are eligible to participate, including 17-year-old residents who will become eligible to vote in the November general election.

The convention begins at 10 a.m. with registration and is scheduled to be called to order no later than 10:45 a.m., according to state party rules.

Anyone who wants the party to consider adoption of a resolution should submit the resolution in electronic form no later than April 10 to CCD@clallamdemocrats.org.
