The Lady Wolves swim team (2-1 overall) came out of the water with another victory on Sept. 29, this time in Bremerton (2-2), with a 123-46 win.
“Our girls are getting faster by the day and we continue to make huge gains,” said head coach Anita Benitez.
Sequim’s top 200 medley team of Sonja Govertsen, Jasmine Itti, Sydnee Linnane and Anna Miehe swam 2 seconds faster and within 4 seconds of a state-qualifying time at 2:05.12.
Along with the relay team, a few more girls qualified as individuals for districts in new events or came close.
The Wolves’ Meguire Vander Velde swam the 200 IM for the first time for a district time (2:44.59) and Govertsen swam her first 100 backstroke on the season (1:12.07) and qualified for districts, too. Govertsen leads the team by qualifying for districts in eight events. She also cut 1 second from her 100 fly time (1:10.66) at the Bremerton meet.
Miehe cut down two districts times in the 200 IM (2:31.32) and in the 100 breast stroke (1:18.75).
Isa Benitez swam the 200 free for the first time, too, and came within two seconds (2:27.30) of districts.
Twelve more girls set personal records in at least one event and several swimming faster than ever before in multiple events. Those who set personal records in two events include Annie Armstrong in the 50 freestyle (31.82) and 100 fly (1:24.38); Bailey Cauffman in the 50 free (39.19) and 100 free (1:30.26); Kaitlyn Davis in the 50 free (38.96) and 100 free (1:27.18); Regan DeMetz in the 50 free (35.32) and 100 free (1:21.60); Alyssa Garrett in the 50 free (30.46) and 100 free (1:10.94); Amanda Murphy in the 50 free (34.31) and 100 free (1:20.29); and Carmen Wilwert in the 50 free (37.13) and 100 breaststroke (1:29.36)
