Flag exchange program offered

The Clallam County Veterans Association is offering a flag exchange program to the residents of Clallam County during the week of June 11-15 in honor of Flag Day, Thursday, June 14. Citizens can exchange their tired, frayed or faded United States flag for a new 3-foot by 5-foot polyester flag free of charge courtesy of the CCVA at the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., through Friday between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 

This program provides local residents the ability to properly dispose of their old flags and to obtain a new one.

Flag disposal ceremony set

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760 is collecting torn and tattered U.S. flags for an annual flag disposal ceremony on Flag Day, Thursday, June 14. Flags may be left in collection boxes year-round at 169 E. Washington St., Sequim, and on the Sunnyside Avenue side of the building. School benefit planned

A benefit to reopen the Paradise Theatre School, a nonprofit in Chimacum, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Pope Marine Building at Madison and Water streets in Port Townsend. KOA hosts DJ contest 

The Port Angeles/Sequim KOA Campground, 80 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles, hosts the “Jungle Fever” DJ Competition on June 15-17. More than 60 DJs spin 34 hours of music on two stages. Appply for continuing ed scholarships

Soroptimist International of Sequim is accepting applications for three continuing education scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. 

Applicants must be female graduates of Sequim High School or have a legal address within the Sequim School District. 

They also need to have completed one year of post-secondary education and must be continuing their education in the fall of 2012.

Marriage equality party on tap

The Clallam County Democratic Party is hosting an event celebrating the passage of Marriage Equality Legislation on Saturday, June 16, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club. 

The event includes a free all-ages potluck from 4-6 p.m. and a dance party from 8 p.m.-midnight featuring DJ shmeejay and DJ transport. The dance party is 21 years-and-older and comes with a $10 suggested minimum donation.

Volunteers sought to collect data

Streamkeepers, Clallam County’s volunteer stream monitoring program, is seeking volunteers to help collect stream health data, perform data entry and analysis, and conduct education and outreach. 

Training dates are June 16 and June 23 and training is free; no previous experience or special equipment necessary, but bring boots or waders if you have them.
