Sheriff speaks about homeland security

Clallam County Democratic Club hosts Sheriff Bill Benedict at its 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, meeting at the Pioneer Memorial Park clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.

Benedict will speak about the Homeland Security influence in Clallam County.

Time for questions will be available after the talk. Refreshments will be served.

Nonperishable food items will be accepted for the Sequim Food Bank. Call 683-4502.

Invitation to a coronation

The Clallam County Fair royalty candidates for 2009 invite the public to their coronation.

Cassie Gaboury, 17, of Port Angeles, is a senior at Port Angeles High School.

Dorielle Lowman, 19, of Sequim, is a sophomore at Peninsula College.

The crowning begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in the Exposition Building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

The event is free and open to the public.

Highway 101 lane closure

Washington State Department of Transportation will be conducting maintenance on U.S. Highway 101 from mileposts 250-263 between Port Angeles and Sequim through Friday. Crews will be cleaning catch-basins from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and the highway will have single lanes closed during that time.

Water system class offered

Clallam County Environmental Health offers a free class for the individual well owners and operators of Group B Public Water System from 9:30-11:30 a.m. March 12.

Participants in the class learn how to inspect and maintain their well water system, how to protect the quality of the water and what water testing should be done.

The class will be held in Public Meeting Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

MAC Night planned

The Museum and Arts Center’s dinner-auction will be held 5-9 p.m. March 21 at SunLand Golf and Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim. Tickets are $50. Call 681-2257.
