Blood drive

Knights of Columbus Council 8455 is sponsoring a blood drive with the Puget Sound Blood Center from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 3:15-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Maple Street and Sequim Avenue. Scheduling is on first come, first served without any appointments.

Speaking of pets

Listeners of KSQM (91.5 FM), are invited to tune in for the second annual Pet Lover’s Weekend, Friday-Sunday, Aug. 27-29.

The nonprofit station will air interviews with representatives from PFOA, the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society and WAG, announcing animals available for adoption; tell Sequim’s pet stories and poems; run informational spots about animal care and play critter-themed music.

Retiring veterinarian and former Sequim Gazette columnist Jack Thornton will be spotlighted through readings from his columns.

Learn about composting

A free backyard composting workshop will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St., Sequim.

The city of Port Angeles Solid Waste Division is sponsoring the workshop with assistance from Master Composters of Clallam County and Washington Department of Ecology Coordinated Grant Program. No preregistration is necessary.

Got Horses? Got Mud?

A free workshop on farm management is being offered from 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, in Port Angeles, Clallam Conservation District is sponsoring the workshop.

Greg Lange, owner of Draftworks horse logging, is offering a tour of his farm. Participants will learn about the techniques he used to construct a mud-free heavy-use area for his two draft horses, as well as other tips he has used to keep his heavy horses from impacting his land.

Take care of that small forest

Clallam Conservation District is offering a free workshop for small-forest landowners.

Greg Lange, owner of Draftworks horse logging, and certified arborist Conor Haggerty lead the 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, workshop in Port Angeles.

Participants will hike through a forest and get tips on evaluating tree health, danger tree assessment, selective pruning for view enhancement and restorative timber-stand management using the "worst first" thinning approach.

Emotional freedom group meets

An ongoing emotional freedom technique group meets from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 1 at Inner Harmony at the Natural Healing Clinic, 162 S. Barr Road, Port Angeles.

New and veteran "tappers" are invited to join Rose Marschall, certified EFT coach, to learn advanced emotional freedom technique skills.

SARC announces annual closure

The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center will be closed Sept. 6-19 for scheduled annual maintenance.

This year’s maintenance includes:

• complete refurbishing of the racquetball court floors

• installing new drain covers and repainting the bottom of the small pool

• re-grouting tile in the pool area

• replacing the jet pump in the hydrotherapy tub

SARC will reopen at 5:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20.

View and bid on vehicles

The Clallam County Treasurer’s Office is holding an online surplus auction that closes at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. It includes 16 county vehicles and four vehicles seized by the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team.

Viewing of the vehicles is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Clallam County Road Department, 1033 W. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Sale items can be seen on the county website at www.clallam.net, under "Online services" then "Surplus Property Sales."
