Planning Commission meeting cancelled
The June 1 Clallam County Planning Commission meeting is cancelled. The Planning Commission will reconvene June 15.
Test siren to sound
Winchester Chimes will sound for 10 seconds at noon Monday, June 6, in communities along the North Olympic Peninsula Coast.
Citizens outside near the beaches who hear the chimes can call in information about where they heard it at 417-2525.

First-aid courses offered
The North Peninsula Building Association sponsors two first-aid courses for those whose first aid card has expired.
• A one-day, four-hour refresher class is from 6-10 p.m. today, June 1, for those whose First Aid Card has expired within the last two months and who have attended an earlier class through NPBA. $35 for members/employees and $50 for nonmembers/employees.
• A standard two-day, eight-hour first aid/CPR class is from 6-10 p.m. June 1-2, for those whose cards have expired over 60 days ago or who do not have a card. $40 member/employees and $60 nonmember/employees.

Church holds 2-day rummage sale
Trinity United Methodist Church holds its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, June 3, and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 4 at 100 Blake Ave., Sequim. The sale includes tools (e.g. a wood chipper) and hardware as well as clothing, linens, housewares and books. Cash only. Proceeds go to the church budget and social service programs. Call 683-5367.
First Federal hosts free community shred event
The Sequim Village Marketplace branch of First Federal hosts a free community shredding event from 10 a.m.-
1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at 1201 W. Washington St., Sequim, to help participants dispose of sensitive documents in a secure way. Shredding will be done at no charge by Lemay Mobile Shredding.
Sensitive documents to bring include old tax returns, account statements or any paperwork with account or social security numbers or other personal information.
First Federal personnel will provide information on identity theft.
Hospital Guild shop open Saturday
Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim, will be open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 4. All white tagged items in the store will be marked at half price. The shop features spring apparel and many household items. Volunteers are always needed. Call 683-7044.
Garage and bake sale planned
Unity of Port Townsend holds a garage and bake sale from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Masonic Hall, corner of Jefferson and Van Buren streets in Port Townsend.
Sequim Cub Scouts visit Saanich pack
Cub Scout Pack 4490,
Sequim, will visit an international Scouting event hosted by the 10th Tsartlip Cub Scouts of Scouts Canada on the Saanich Peninsula on Sunday, June 5. The U.S. Cubs, their leaders and their families will join the local Central Saanich Cub Pack at Island View Beach for an afternoon of fun and games, including a raft-building contest, a family barbecue, and badge and pin trading. Help needed for kitten care
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society has been inundated with kittens, with more arriving. Donations of non-clumping cat litter are desperately needed. Litter may be donated at the humane society at 2105 W. Highway 101 in Port Angeles, 457-8206, or call Kandace in Sequim, 461-2810, to arrange a drop-off.
Tribal Council, City Council meet
The Sequim City Council and the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Council hold a joint meeting from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Center, 1033 Old Blyn Highway, Sequim. Agenda items include the future of the city and the tribe, goals and opportunities to work together.
GMO group meets
The newly formed Genetically Modified Organisms Awareness Group meets 5:30-
7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, in the meeting room at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
The group plans to raise awareness about genetically engineered crops present in the nation’s food supply, with the eventual goal of having GMO products labeled.
Secret Garden Tour explores country landscape
Jefferson County Master Gardeners host a Secret Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 18. The self-guided tour is on the Toandos Peninsula, between Hood Canal and Dabob Bay and showcases sustainable gardening practices.
Tickets are $15 in advance, available May 21-June 17 at local nurseries. Remaining tickets are $20 on the day of the tour, available at the Olympic Peninsula Gateway Visitor Center, junction of Highway 104 and Highway 19. Call 360-379-5445.
