Get rid of knotweed
Clallam County offers free workshops on fighting knotweed, an invasive species that crowds out native plants and destroys fish habitat. Tools and supplies are available to landowners who attend the workshops. Call 417-2442 or e-mail edixon@co.clallam.wa.us for more information or to sign up.

Dog shows return to Sequim
Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club of Washington holds its 15th annual Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club Dog Shows from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Sunday, July 29-31, at the Blake property just south of Carrie Blake Park.
The event includes dog shows and obedience and rally trials, with dogs representing up to 150 American Kennel Club breeds. A demonstration by the Emerald City K-9 Freestyle Dancers is at noon on July 30-31.
Admission is free. Parking is free on July 29 and $5 on July 30-31 (or $8 for both days).
An animal eye clinic is offered for $30 per dog, scheduled for noon-5 p.m. July 29 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m., July 30. No appointment is necessary.
Flea market vendors wanted
The Mount Pleasant Grange in Port Angeles sponsors a community flea market and yard sale 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Mount Pleasant Community Hall, 2432 Mount Pleasant Road.
Inside table space and outdoor tailgate space are available for rent for $10.
The sale is a fundraiser for the maintenance of the hall. Call 360-670-9035.
Streamfest seeks helpers
North Olympic Land Trust seeks volunteers to assist at Streamfest, to be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 31. Help is needed for set-up on July 30, for serving food/drinks and greeting participants on July 31 and for take-down on Aug.1.

SmileMobile offers dental services
The Washington Dental Service foundation SmileMobile comes to Sequim from Aug.1- Aug.12. The fully equipped mobile dental clinic will be at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St. The SmileMobile provides dental care to children (birth-high school) with limited family income and accepts State of Washington Services Cards (ProviderOne) on a sliding fee scale based on family income.

Report emergency siren tests
A test of the All Hazard Alert Broadcast sirens in Clallam County will sound the Winchester chimes at noon Monday, Aug. 1, at LaPush, Neah Bay, Clallam Bay, Lower Elwha, West Port Angeles, Dungeness and Diamond Point. A voice message gives information about where to tune the radio in case of an actual emergency.
Clallam County asks citizens who hear the siren test to call 417-2525 on Monday/Tuesday with information about the chimes, the announcement, the blue alert light and where they were when they heard the siren.
Theater group brings ‘Boots’ to Sequim
On Wednesday, Aug. 3, the North Olympic Library System sponsors two appearances by Oregon Shadow Theatre’s production of "Puss in Boots." The first is at 10:30 a.m. at the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave., and the second at 3 p.m. at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
The Oregon Shadow Theatre is a Portland-based company whose award-winning plays have toured the United States and Canada, including performances at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Northwest Puppet Center in Seattle and the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.

Volunteer for Clallam’s ‘Team Tsunami’
Clallam County Emergency Management seeks applications from volunteers for the Team Tsunami presentation program. Training is Thursday, Aug. 4, in Port Angeles.
Certified trainers will provide tsunami educational workshops to schools, community organizations and neighborhoods on the science of earthquakes and tsunamis, the AHAB siren system and on how to be prepared for tsunami waves that would impact Clallam County coastal areas.

Hospital Guild shop open Saturday
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St., Sequim, will be open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. The shop features summer fashions and home accessories. Volunteers are needed at the shop. Call 683-7044.
