Democrats meeting
"Let’s Get the Spirit" – a pairing of wine and cheese, is the motto of the Clallam County Democratic Club meeting on Sept. 8. It will be an opportunity to meet candidates Larry Freedman, who is running for the prosecutors office, and John Miller, incumbent, who is running for re-election as the director of the Clallam County office of Community Development.

Waterfront Trail closures
The Waterfront/Olympic Discovery Trail is closed to public access between the Red Lion Hotel and Francis Street Park in Port Angeles from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 10.
The closure is necessary to allow workers to safely remove debris from tree-trimming operations. The trail will be open before 9:30 a.m. and after 3:30 p.m. to allow commuters to bicycle or walk to work.
Benefit for Operation Uplift
Runway for Awareness is a benefit fashion show from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Vern Burton Center, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles. All proceeds go directly to Operation Uplift, a cancer support organization for the Olympic Peninsula.
Tickets are $15, for ages 14 and up, at Sassy Kat Salon, Cottage Queen and Sterling Savings Bank.
Genealogical society meeting
Beverly Brice presents "Probate: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" at Clallam County Genealogical Society’s meeting 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 11, at the parish hall at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. Brice speaks about genealogical aspects of probate.

NAMI education program
National Alliance on Mental Illness offers its Family-to-Family education program from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 11-Nov. 20, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
The program is free to family members, partners and significant others of individuals with major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, and co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders.

Accordion social planned

A free introduction to an eight-week seminar on depression recovery is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, and repeated Monday, Sept. 20, at Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.

Crime victims, ‘Army’ on agenda
Services for crime victims will be featured when the Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County meets from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the downstairs fellowship hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.
Amy Perete-McIntyre and Sarah Sanders of the Forks Abuse Program will introduce the state-funded Crime Victim Service Center program operated countywide by the Forks nonprofit agency.

Dinner supports volunteer hospice
The Reach for Hospice fundraising dinner is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at C’est Si Bon restaurant in Port Angeles.
Tickets are $60/person with a choice of beef, chicken or fish entrees. All profits go to VHOCC for respite care for families of patients so that they can attend to personal business while a trained professional stays with their loved one.
