Blood drives
Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church hosts a blood donation drive from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 925 N. Sequim Ave. Lunch will be served to donors from 1-2 p.m.
Knights of Columbus Council 8455 will sponsor a blood drive from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and from 3:15 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim.
H1N1 school clinic
Clallam County Health and Human Services in conjunction with the Sequim School District will offer an H1N1 vaccination clinic for students from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Sequim Middle School.
Vaccination information sheets and parental consent forms are being distributed by the school district. There is no charge for this vaccination. For further information, contact Christina Dettra at 417-2364.

Agent lauded
U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Linson was honored Nov. 30 at the Port Angeles Border Patrol Station for assisting an elderly Sequim man who had wandered away from his home west of the city.
Linson noticed the man walking along U.S. Highway 101 just after midnight on Nov. 7. He asked the man, who appeared confused, if he needed help.
Linson contacted the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and was told the man had a history of dementia and recently walked away from his residence.
He drove the man home and waited until sheriff’s deputies arrived.
I-fest royalty

Gala celebrates center
The Friends of the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center’s 12th annual holiday gala at C’est Si Bon Restaurant begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Entrée choices include rack of lamb in demi-glaze berry sauce, beef Wellington, bouillabaisse and a vegetarian roast on a bed of risotto timbale, with assorted side dishes and Michele’s chocolate cake with sauce anglaise.
The a capella group Hot Apple Pie provides entertainment.

Santa photo op at OTA
Olympic Theatre Arts opens its doors for the public to meet Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.
Free pictures with the jolly couple will be provided. Costumed elves, treats and an authentic winter sleigh also will be at the event.
The King’s Way Dancers will perform at 2 p.m.

Garden club meets
for Christmas event
Port Angeles Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, for a Christmas potluck luncheon and gift exchange.
Due to storm water damage, the meeting will take place at the Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles. Potential members and guests are welcome.
A voluntary gift exchange among members will be held after the lunch. A spending limit of $6 is recommended.
Members also are encouraged to bring their gifts and or donations for Crestwood Convalescent Center patients and for the Port Angeles Food Bank. Club committee chairmen will deliver the items. Members purchase and wrap gifts for one of the identified individuals at the center.

Scouts mark 100 years
Boy Scouts of America kicks off its 100th anniversary with an audiocast rally from 5-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.
During the audiocast, Boy Scouts of America will give away several prizes, including two tickets to Gala Twenty-Ten, a 100th anniversary event in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 9, 2010.

Remembrance of children
The North Olympic Peninsula Chapter of The Compassionate Friends is preparing for the annual TCF Worldwide Candle Lighting and Remembrance at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Church of Christ, 1233 E. Front St., Port Angeles.
Participants are encouraged to bring pictures of their children.
The event unites family and friends in lighting candles for one hour to honor and commemorate children who have died at any age from any cause in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious and political boundaries.
The worldwide candle lighting is the group’s gift to the bereaved community, to show unity in remembering the lives of children who have died. It creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone and allows for quiet remembrance.
