School board president

At the Dec. 14 Sequim school board meeting, members elected Bev Horan as president. She succeeds Sarah Bedinger, who remains an acting board member. John Bridge was elected vice-president and Virginia O’Neil reinstated as legislative representative.

Every year, the school board is required to vote on positions, but sometimes members continue in their positions as there are no term limits.

MAC’s late hours

High tea with OTA

Celebrate Twelfth Night in elegant British style at Olympic Theatre Arts’ second annual holiday high tea at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, and Saturday, Jan. 9. Seatings are offered in the theater’s gathering room, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

The menu includes savories, Yorkshire Gold English tea, finger sandwiches, shortbreads and scones plus a variety of sweet confections. Musical entertainment will be provided and a tour offered of OTA’s new main stage. The main stage officially will open in February for the musical "Cabaret."

Retirees donate

The Olympic Peninsula Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this month with a Christmas party where members donated 25 toys for Toys for Tots. For more information on the association, call Tob Weidenheimer, 681-2212.

Conference center open

Carlsborg Conference Center, 865 Carlsborg Road, Suite E., will be open for classes, workshops, meetings and a no-commission gallery for art shows and fundraisers in 2010.

Bridge closings

The Hood Canal bridge will close to traffic for up to 40 minutes for ballasting test openings through Friday, Dec. 18. The openings are scheduled to correspond with the slack tide about:

Thursday, Dec. 17 – 2:45 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 18 – 2:45 p.m.

Bridge openings of up to 90 minutes may take place from 10 p.m.-4 a.m. Dec. 14-18.

More closures are planned for January and if everything meets specifications, the bridge retrofit project will be completed then.

Frick giving tree

Harp for holidays

Friday night date night and candlelight Christmas at Damiana’s Best Cellars features Laraine Claire on harp playing holiday classics from 6-8 p.m. The event is free.
