Purple Haze slot on ‘Good Morning America’ rescheduled

Purple Haze Lavender Farm is set to appear in a "Good Morning America" segment on ABC in the 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, program.

The program was originally slated to run a week earlier (Sept. 26) but was postponed, farm owner Mike Reichner said.

Reichner noted that film crews visited the farm July 18-19 to feature the farm and the Lavender Festival for the "Weekend Window" portion of the show.

Dog food needed

Olympic Peninsula Humane Society needs fresh, sealed bags of dry and canned dog food immediately.

Warm hearts, homes sought

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society now has the following animals available for adoption:

18 dogs at shelter (five dogs in foster homes)

7 puppies available as of Sept. 28 with six more available in one week

34 adult cats

2 pair of semi-feral barn cats

11 kittens

Currently the shelter needs canned puppy food, dry kitten food and disposable puppy pads.

New shelter hours start Friday, Oct. 1. The shelter will be open to the public for adoptions noon-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Cantwell staff offers consultations

Staff from U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell’s state offices will be available from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, for one-on-one consultations to help residents access federal programs and navigate the federal bureaucracy. Consultations will be at 223 E. Fourth St., Room 160, Port Angeles.

Public employees meeting set

Retired Public Employees Council Chapter 23 meets at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center, Eighth and B streets, Port Angeles. A buffet lunch served at noon is $8.

Sequim Prairie Garden Club hosts a harvest festival from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.

There will be sale items and a raffle. Proceeds will be used to maintain and continue the beautification of Pioneer Memorial Park.

Similac recall

Similac maker Abbott Nutrition issued a voluntary recall after finding several powder infant formulas contaminated with parts of a small, common beetle.

Affected products include Similac Advance; Similac Sensitive – Fussiness and Gas; Similac Sensitive – Spit-Up; and Similac Sensitive – Soy.

The products may cause gastrointestinal discomfort but are not known to have caused illness in Washington. Parents are advised to take their babies to a health care provider to be checked if symptoms continue.
