‘After the Dam’ subject of presentation

Robert Elofson, Lower Klallam Elwha Tribe river restoration director, presents “Elwha River Ecosystem: After the Dam” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 E. First St., Port Angeles. He will discuss the tribe’s view of the dam removal and what to expect in the future.

SEF poster contest is online

Vote for your Sequim Education Film Festival favorite poster entry online at www.sequimed.com.

Voting deadline is Thursday, Jan. 26.

The winner of the poster contest will receive $100 and will be recognized on stage the night of the event when organizers auction off the framed poster. 

The poster also will be used to promote the festival throughout the community.

Town hall meeting on biomass plants set

The Healthy Air Clallam Coalition holds a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Hall, 73 Howe Road, Port Angeles. MAC meeting rescheduled

The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley’s annual members meeting set for Saturday, Jan. 21, has been rescheduled due to winter weather conditions.

The meeting is rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the historical Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road in Sequim.

Gubernatorial candidate to speak

Republican Women of Clallam County will host guest speaker Shahram Hadian, Republican candidate for governor, at a community forum at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim.

Give blood Feb. 4

Puget Sound Blood Center holds a Sequim blood drive from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave. The drive is closed for staff lunch from 2:45-3:30 p.m.

Salmon Coalition seeks volunteers

The North Olympic Salmon Coalition invites the public to a volunteer tubing party along Snow Creek in Discovery Bay from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on two Saturdays, Feb. 11 and Feb. 18.

Volunteers will be placing protectors on newly planted trees. Bring warm clothes, water and a snack.

KSQM plans Valentine’s celebration

KSQM 91.5 FM radio hosts its third annual Precious Memories Weekend from Friday, Feb. 10, through Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Listeners are invited to send a memory or story related to a specific song to office@ksqmfm.com or P.O. Box 723, Sequim, WA 98382.

They also can stop by the station, 577 W. Washington St., Sequim.

The station’s studios will record the memory for broadcast with the song during the event.

The celebration ends with milk and cookies at the station from 2-6 p.m. on Valentine’s Day. Call 681-0000.

Volunteer spots with Habitat open

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County is beginning construction on its 23rd home and needs volunteer support on the construction site, in the office and in the Habitat Store.

Habitat also is launching a new program to assist lower-income homeowners with exterior home repair and maintenance, including painting, landscaping, minor weatherization and exterior clean-up.

First Book offers grants

First Book-Clallam County is accepting book grant applications from local nonprofit organizations that serve children in need. To be eligible, Clallam County organizations are required to incorporate reading in their program activities, serve children from low-income households, provide multiple distributions to each child, and support the child’s ongoing education outside of the classroom.

White Crane offers free Tai Chi for seniors

White Crane Martial Arts offers free classes in Tai Chi for seniors from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays this winter in the Soft Arts Room at 129 W. First St., Port Angeles. Robert Brown instructs.

Tai Chi is low impact and builds balance. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
