Shelter Providers Network meets today

The Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County meets at 9 a.m. today, Feb. 16, in the downstairs fellowship hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

Network members will hear reports, then begin preparation for the March 17 Second Annual Project Homeless Connect, a service and information exposition for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, at the Vern Burton Center, 321 E. Clallam planning commission meets

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. today, Feb. 16, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Items on the agenda include Title 29 CCC, Subdivisions; Clallam County Comprehensive Plan, Chapters 31.01, Comprehensive Plan Overview; and Chapter 31.02, Countywide Comprehensive Plan.

The after-hours entrance is from Fourth Street and hearing devices are available for those who need them.

Beus to talk soil health

Dr. Curtis Beus speaks at noon, Thursday, Feb. 24, in the county commissioners’ meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Beus, Clallam County Extension director through Washington State University, discusses composting, cover crops, mulches, soil tillage, sources of soil nutrients and soil health.

MoveOn meeting Feb. 22

Clallam County MoveOn hosts its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Unitarian Universalist Church, 73 Howe Road, Port Angeles. Rhonda Curry, assistant administrator for Olympic Medical Center, will give an overview of services, facilities, specialties and medical staff, and delivery of health care. MoveOn members will discuss the Affordable Health Care Act and the impact of state budget cuts on the delivery of coverage to Clallam County residents.

Freethinkers discuss a range of topics

The Juan de Fuca Freethinkers meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the Raymond Carver Room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.

The meeting includes details about Americans United for the Separation of Church and State in Seattle and the Northwest Freethought Conference in Portland in March.

United Way honors volunteers, donors

The United Way of Clallam County will honor more than 100 volunteers and thousands of donors who helped with the 2010 campaign during a social hour and awards dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Port Angeles Crab House Juan de Fuca Room at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

The dinner is open to campaign volunteers, donors, United Way partner agencies and their volunteers and any other interested persons. Cost is $23 per person. Make reservations by calling the United Way office at 457-3011 or

People First Club hosts food drive Feb. 24

The People First Club of the Life Skills class at Sequim High School hosts a food drive benefiting the Sequim Food Bank from 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at QFC, 990 E. Washington St., and Safeway, 680 W. Washington St. They will accept donations of all kinds, including soups, peanut butter, tuna, cereal and cat and dog foods.

Clallam County advisory board seeks volunteers

The Clallam County commissioners invite local residents to apply for the Chemical Dependency/Mental Health Program Fund Advisory Board.

Two at-large positions serving three-year terms are open.
