OMC Sequim displays new cancer technology, helipad

The Olympic Medical Center Sequim campus, 800 and 844 N. Fifth Ave., hosts two free events on Thursday, June 30.

• 4 p.m. Coast Guard helicopter fly-in to open the Sequim helipad.

• 6 p.m. Open house at Olympic Medical Cancer Center for visitors to tour advances in radiotherapy and cancer therapy, including the center’s new Varian TruBeam®.

Bobs’-R-Q served

The second annual Bobs’-R-Q, hosted by KSQM radio personalities Bob Spinks and Bob Rhoads, includes a traditional barbecue from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.. Saturday, July 2, at the KSQM parking lot, 577 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Food and entertainment are available at the free event, including hot dogs, beans and soda. All donations fund KSQM.

Activities include a Sequim Valley Car Club car show, a karate demonstration by Sequim Martial Arts and music by Les Wamboldt and his Old Tyme Country Band, singer Amanda Bacon, and the Sequim City Band clarinet ensemble.

Immigrant rights rally planned

Stop the Checkpoints sponsors an “Immigrant Rights and Anti-War Rally” from noon-

2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in Veterans Park, 217 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles. Organizers say the rally protests the expansion of the Border Patrol facility in Port Angeles and the continued “war on terror” in Afghanistan and Iraq.

‘A Little Noon Music’

“A Little Noon Music” begins at noon Wednesday, July 6, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. The free series continues at noon Wednesdays July 13, 20 and 27. Bring a brown bag lunch if you like.

Anna Nichols will give an hour-long presentation. Two concerts will be on the piano and two on the organ. Nichols has studied and given concerts both in the United States and in Europe. Her choral and organ compositions have been published and performed.

Literacy Council reschedules meetings

Clallam County Literacy Council meetings have been rescheduled to the second Friday of the month for July-December. The council meets in the Raymond Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Meetings will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 9, Oct. 14 and Nov. 11. The

Dec. 9 meeting will be held 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Genealogy group changes meeting

Computer Genealogy Users Group has changed its meeting to 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8. The group meets in the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Ray Madsen presents a program about “Family Search.”

Deaf Coffee House picnic set

The third annual Deaf Coffee House Picnic is from 9 a.m.-dusk Saturday, July 9, at Carrie Blake Park, 202 Blake Ave., Sequim.

Beta Nu chapter extends scholarship deadline

The application deadline for scholarships from the Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is extended to July 15. Awards are given to women and men who are graduates of Clallam County high schools or Peninsula College, currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, at least in their junior year of studies and accepted into a teacher education program.

Items needed for church sale

The Men’s OutReach Endeavor group at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church holds a garage sale from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at 925 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim. Donated items are accepted Mondays, July 18 and July 25. Arrange pickups after July 17 at 681-0946. Electronics, exercise equipment, old luggage without wheels and leftovers from other sales cannot be accepted. Proceeds from the July 30 sale go to local charities.

Wood artisans present show

The Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans presents its annual art show and sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Elks Club Sequim Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. Included are carvings, turnings, intarsia, driftwood and chain saw works, many for sale at special show prices. Events include a raffle, a silent auction, and woodworking vendors with demonstrations. Admission and parking are free.

PUD: Check for approved installers

Clallam County PUD #1 warns customers that only approved participating installers may be used for PUD residential weatherization and heating programs. Customers using non-approved contractors for installation are not eligible for PUD rebates or incentives. Alzheimer’s support groups seek volunteers

Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a place for people to learn and gain emotional support from others who provide care to a person with memory loss. The association needs volunteers to help facilitate the groups throughout western Washington.
