Masons report scam
Masons from Sequim Masonic Lodge 213 are reporting a scam phoned into homes across the peninsula. Bob Clark, Masonic Lodge secretary, said men and women have been identifying themselves as members of Masonic Lodge 45 looking for donations to support sickly and needy children.
He said the calls are false because:
_ Lodge 45 is not a real entity.
_ Masons do not solicit donations over the phone.
_ Women are not members of any Masonic lodge.
The calls have been circulating to his knowledge for at least a week. Jim Hansen, district deputy for district 11 of Washington, said authorities have been notified about the scam.

Weeds in the woods
The Forest Service now requires the use of certified weed-free horse feed within all Pacific Northwest forests, not just in wilderness area.
This requirement includes hay, cubes, straw, grain and other crop or mulch products, pellets, grains and materials used in restoration and erosion control projects.
More than 3,800 acres of the Olympic National Forest have known infestations of non-native plants, with new areas still being discovered. The Forest Service is working to control, eradicate and prevent the spread of noxious and invasive weeds and prevent introduction of new non-native plants.

Medicinal herbs
Patricia Star-Bowen, a veteran Master Gardener, will discuss growing and using medicinal herbs at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Master Gardener demonstration garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.
Topics will include common herbs that grow around us and in our gardens, harvesting techniques, how to dry and store, how to make an infusion and how to make a tincture.
The presentation is part of the "Class Act at Woodcock Garden" free series held at 10 a.m. the first and third Thursday of every month at Woodcock Demonstration Gardenuim. For questions, call 360-417-2279.
Documentary describes
health care system
A DVD called "Health, Money and Fear" will be shown from 2-4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 12, and again from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.
Dr. Paul Hochfield, an emergency room doctor, produced the documentary that describes why the health care system is ailing.
Each showing will be followed with discussions of single payer and public options as possible health care reforms.
RV club needs members
Hurricane Ridge RV Club wants new members. The club is open to anyone with a recreational vehicle.
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 Del Guzzi Drive, Port Angeles. Dinner starts at 6 p.m.
Campouts are scheduled once a month from April-October.
