Guild’s sale helps children
Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital holds “Christmas in July,” a giant garage, plant and holiday crafts/gifts sale this weekend. The event runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Sunday at 81 Timothy Lane near Carlsborg.
Proceeds got to Seattle Children’s Hospital. The sale includes toys, furniture, books tapes, sporting goods, plants, holiday decorations and gifts, home decor, kitchen items, clothing and more.

Ice cream social hosted at Elks Lodge
The Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, hosts an ice cream social 5 p.m. today, July 20. Entry is $5. Ladies of the Elks holds a bag auction afterward to benefit local charities, with three check presentations during the event from past fundraisers.
Commercial driver license fees to increase
The fee for a new or renewed commercial driver license will increase from $30 to $61 beginning on July 22.
The change is a result of the state budget that the Legislature adopted in May. The fees will continue to be deposited in the state highway safety fund. For more information, go to www.dol.wa.gov.
High-elevation roads to be opened
Deer Park Road is expected to be opened on or around July 23.
Obstruction Point Road is open from Hurricane Ridge to Waterhole at milepost 3.2. Olympic National Park officials anticipate opening the rest of Obstruction Point Road by early August, depending on weather and road conditions.

Cutting Garden open house planned
The Cutting Garden in Sequim hosts its annual bridal open house 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at 303 Dahlia Llama Lane, Sequim.
Attendees can stroll through the gardens and speak with wedding vendors. Admission is free.

County auctions surplus equipment online
The Clallam County Treasurer’s Office holds an online surplus auction of vehicles, equipment and office furniture from Tuesday, July 26, through Friday, Aug. 5.

Taizé service set
A Taizé service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
Originating in the village of Taizé in eastern France, the service includes candles, silence and short simple songs, which are repeated many times and become prayers in themselves.

Movie scheduled
“The Man Who Sued God,” starring Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, will be shown at the Juan de Fuca Freethinkers’ meeting Wednesday, July 27, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Free community dinner planned
A free community dinner will be served at
6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.
Reservations are requested; call the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or e-mail dinners@sequimtumc.org.
The dinner includes meatballs, green beans, carrot-raisin salad, dessert and beverages.
The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.

The Sequim Community Foundation celebrates $300,000 of “Giving Back to the Community” from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Sound Community Bank, 541 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. The nonprofit foundation also is celebrating recently receiving National Standards certification.
Medical center forum
A community forum is scheduled from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, to discuss the proposed affiliation between Olympic Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center.
The forum is in the second-floor conference room at Olympic Medical Center’s Sequim campus, Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
