‘Wear and Share’ free clothing event
The Sequim Bay Relief Society hosts a Wear and Share event offering free clothing, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 815 W. Washington St.
There will be clothing, coats, shoes and accessories for men, women and children. The clothing is new or gently used.
Attendees are asked to bring their own bags to fill.
Priority will be given to people selecting items for themselves or family members; those selecting items for purposes other than personal, such as resale, are asked to attend the event after noon on Aug.24.

Back to School Fair set for Aug. 24
Sequim’s annual Back to School Fair is scheduled for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St.
The event includes free school supplies, resources, food (for attendees 18 and younger), activities and more.
The annual event is put on by the club, Sequim School District, Sequim Valley Lions, United Way of Clallam County and Sequim Sunrise Rotary.
Historic preservation funding available
The Clallam County Heritage Advisory Board is accepting applications for historic preservation grants.
According to state law, funds are collected to be used for projects which “promote historical preservation or historical programs, which may include preservation of historic documents.” The grants, county officials note, are for public programming, capital improvements and equipment, collections management and training that support projects’ preservation and enhancing county history for residents, visitors and future generations.
Applications may be submitted by a public entity or a nonprofit tax-exempt organization that either operates or owns a museum or similar historical institution promoting local history within the boundaries of Clallam County; entities performing educational, interpretive, or similar activities that promote local history within county boundaries; or individuals or entities that own property within Clallam County that is listed on local, state or national registers.

County seeks animal solutions group volunteers
The Board of Clallam County Commissioners announced it has openings for its Animal Solutions Advisory Committee.
The purpose of the committee is to advise the Board of County Commissioners and provide advice and support to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office regarding animal control management.
The committee will also provide regular forum for exchanging information, sharing resources, highlighting emergent concerns and recommending key community strategies to better support county residents and their companion animals.
There are openings for representatives for a Veterinarian, a Clallam County equine rescue organization, an animal rescue organization that accommodates animals other than dogs, cats and horses, and two at-large members.

Rummage sale slated in PA
Clallam County Genealogical Society hosts a rummage sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 403 E. Eight St., Port Angeles.
The fundraising sale features new and gently-used items, including books, baby and children clothing, collectibles, tools, art, jewelry, fishing and boating gear, kitchen and household appliances, Christmas-themes items, hobbies and toys, free vacuums and more.
In-person grief support group set
Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) is sponsoring a five-week in-person grief support group from 1-3 p.m. on Fridays, Aug. 23-Sept. 20, in the conference room at VHOCC’s offices, 829 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.
The group offers a place for participants to share with others their feelings and experiences with grief; gain a clearer understanding of the mourning process; and learn coping skills and strategies for dealing with the emotional pain of loss. Confidentiality is essential to foster openness, trust and acceptance.

Grange, OPEN team up for event
The Sequim Prairie Grange is teaming up with another local nonprofit, Olympic Peninsula Equine Network (OPEN), for the final Ice Cream Social and Car Show of the year.
Enjoy ice cream, classic cars and the Clallam County Fire District 3 smoke trailer at the event, scheduled for 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
For $7, attendees can choose between a sundae, banana split, with part of the proceeds going to OPEN.
Local office open to help disabled veterans
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) office at the Sequim Museum & Arts administration building at 544 N. Sequim Ave., is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every Wednesday to serve veterans who are needing help with claims or other information.
Services are free and veterans do not have to be members of DAV to receive assistance.
The office is by walk-in; no appointment is necessary.
