Sequim police chief to be sworn in on Friday

The Sequim community is invited to join the City of Sequim as Police Chief Sheri Crain is sworn in at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in the Council Chambers at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

Chritsmas caroling planned for downtown Sequim

Dungeness Community Church sponsors Community Christmas Caroling led by Craig Buhler from noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Centennial Place, on the northeast corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street. Come and enjoy singing or listening to your favorite carols.

See birds of prey

On Saturday, Dec. 17, Jaye and Gary Moore from the Northwest Raptor and Wildlife Center, a nonprofit organization, will be at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101 in Gardiner, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with live birds of prey that have been rehabilitated through their efforts. The public is invited come into the shop to view these educational birds.

Board to make determination on East Sequim Bay building

The Clallam County Building Code Board of Appeals hosts a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in the Clallam County Courthouse boardroom (223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles) to hear an appeal from owners of a proposed building at 695 E. Sequim Bay Road.

The county building official determined the building should be classified as a Group R-1 Boarding House in accordance with the International Building Code, but the appellant’s counsel says it should be classified as a Lodging House regulated by the International Residential Code.

On Nov. 28, the Board of Appeals held an open record hearing on the appeal and on Dec. 12 the board voted 4-0 to affirm the county building official’s determination.

On Dec. 15, the board will review the findings of fact, conclusions of law and decision as presented by the county, and sign the decision document.

Shipley Center Christmas luncheon set for Dec. 20

The Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim, hosts a Christmas luncheon with seatings at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. Tickets are $12 for members, $15 for non-members. The event is catered by The Cafe at the Shipley Center and features a traditional Christmas dinner with sides and dessert. Entertainment is by Carlos Xavier. Have your picture taken with Santa. Donate a toy and be entered in a gift basket drawing.

The event is sponsored by Dungeness Courte Memory Care, Home Instead Senior Care, First Federal and Sequim Health &Rehabilitation.

Church to have Christmas Angel toy distribution

The Crossing Church will host the Christmas Angel Program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. It will be held at Fairview Bible Church, 385 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles. Toys are distributed to parents with children who are not financially able to purchase gifts. The gifts are available for infants and up to age 18. The church partners with Toys for Tots in Port Angeles for this event.

Last Saturday of 2016 to shop guild thrift store

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop will be open for its last Saturday of the year from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. This will be your chance to pick up last-minute gifts from a large array of items in the shop including, jewelry, clothing, decorations, glassware and dishes, furniture and books and puzzles. All white-tagged items will be offered at half-price. The shop will close on Dec. 19 and reopen on Jan. 3. The guild thanks all of its consignors and customers for making this a banner year in profits. Without your support, those important medical gifts to Sequim would not be possible.

‘Sonic Sea’ this weekend

Movie Night at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim, has been rescheduled to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. The movie is “Sonic Sea,” a film about protecting life in area waters from the destructive effects of oceanic noise pollution. This is a free event open to the public.

Meditation seminar planned

Paul Welch will present “Having a Quiet Mind,” a day of meditation and inquiry, from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, in Room 328, Green Haven Apartments, 375 Fasola Road, Sequim. Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.

Thursday, Dec. 15: Carrot salad, chicken marinara, egg noodles, green beans, apricots

Friday, Dec. 16: Tossed salad, pork roast, baked apples, sweet potatoes, steamed greens, dessert

Tuesday, Dec. 20: Green salad, chicken enchiladas, Spanish rice, refried beans, orange slices, baked custard
