Holiday meal distribution set for Dec. 15

Sequim Food Bank and its community partners continue the Family Holiday Meal Bag distribution this Friday as a drive-through event in Carrie Blake Community Park.

Attendees can visit from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 starting in the parking lot of Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Lineup starts at 10 a.m. Drivers will then go along Blake Avenue and into the Water Reuse Demonstration Site where multiple teams load food for drivers in their vehicles. Organizers said they provided out more than 1,100 boxes in person at the Nov. 17 event.

Sequim Food Bank, 144 W. Alder St., is open 1-4 p.m. Mondays, and 9 a.m.-noon Fridays and Saturdays. For more information, call 360-683-1205.

Enjoy 12 cookies of Christmas

Celebrate the season with “The 12 Cookies of Christmas” at Sherwood Assisted Living (550 W. Hendrickson Road) and The Fifth Avenue (500 W. Hendrickson Road) from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 21.

Receive a free assortment of festive cookies, take pictures with Santa and Frosty the Snowman, and enjoy live music from country artist Buck Ellard and pianist Isabelle Rose in this event that celebrates the Winter Solstice.

Guild’s thrift shop to be open

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St., will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 14-16.

Because the shop will be closed January and February, shoppers are encouraged to check out the pre-holiday sale for lots of last-minute holiday gifts.

Donations will be accepted through Dec. 16 and resumes in February. New volunteers are welcome.

Get photos with your pets and Santa at The Co-Op Farm & Garden, 216 E. Washington St., from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16.

Cookies, caroling set at VHOCC

Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) invites the community to celebrate the season with an afternoon of song, cookies and hot chocolate from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, in the parking lot of VHOCC offices, 829 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles.

Kelly Sanderbeck, a professional singer and VHOCC volunteer, will lead participants through a repertoire of Christmas carols and other winter classics while they partake in hot chocolate, cookies and other baked goodies. Guests also may tour the Lending Closet and get more information about the organization’s programs.

Visitors may also place a star in memory of loved ones on the Christmas tree in VHOCC’s offices for a donation of any amount as a part of its annual Radiant Light fundraiser, running through December.

There is no charge to participate or to enjoy snacks. Donations are welcome.

Community Dinner offered Christmas Day

A free community dinner is available to all community members from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, in the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St. There will be turkey, mashed potatoes, pies, and more available. Santa Claus will also appear from noon-1 p.m.

The event is organized by Mr. and Mrs. Singh Khela and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hap Khela and sons, Sonny Khela and daughter, Sun Taxi and Delivery, and the Rosales family. Multiple donors make the event possible, including food donated by Sequim Food Bank and space by the Boys & Girls Club.

New toys for all ages can be donated at Sequim Shell Station, 194 W. Washington St.

Blue Christmas service set in PA

While the Christmas season is for many a time when people celebrate family, community and close relationships, the season can make the pain of those who have suffered loss more pronounced.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church hosts a Blue Christmas service for the community at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

All are welcome. Organizers say this is an event to mourn and reflect. It will feature local jazz musicians playing special music weaved in with storytelling by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church’s Pastor Olaf.

Local office open to help disabled veterans

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) office in the Worksource building, 810 W. Brackett Road, is open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Wednesday to serve veterans who are needing help with claims or other information.

Services are free and veterans do not have to be members of DAV to receive assistance. The office is by walk-in; no appointment is necessary.
