Hurricane Ridge webcams are back online

Thanks to a donation from Washington’s National Park Fund (WNPF), both of the Hurricane Ridge webcams have been restored.

The tools for winter trip planning and weather watching are live on Olympic National Park’s website at tinyurl.com/SEQhrwebcam.

WNPF organized a Fire Relief Fund in the wake of the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge fire to support restoration projects. When the lodge caught fire on May 7, utility systems, including those supporting the webcam, were critically damaged. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Rockfall closes popular Spruce Railroad Trail

because of a recent landslide, the Spruce Railroad Trail is closed until further notice, Olympic National Park officials said on Dec. 14.

Significant rockfall and debris cover the trail near the Daley-Rankin Tunnel. The tunnel portal structure and bridge are also damaged.

Closing the entire trail is necessary to protect visitor safety and allow park crews to remove debris, assess trail damage, and make plans for repairs, park officials note.

Closure updates will be posted on Olympic National Park’s website at nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.

Little League Park paving updated

Mike Thomas, project manager with Lakeside Industries, said they’re now targeting mid-to-late January, weather permitting, to pave the eastern portion of the parking lot of Dr. Standard Little League Park at 124 W. Silberhorn Road.

Rainy weather prevented crews from paving it earlier this month before their asphalt plant closed for maintenance on Dec. 8. It will reopen the second week of January, Thomas said.

Paving will complete most of phase 1 of a three phase project led by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe. Phase 1’s new pavement will add 156 parking spaces (six of which are Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliant) along with ADA walkways, including one from the new lot to the most northern field (Thatcher Field), and stormwater infrastructure.

Registration for Sequim Little League’s 2024 season closes Monday, Jan. 1 with more information at sequimlittleleague.com.
