Book sale set
The Friends of Sequim Library’s 2nd Saturday Book Sale is slated for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Rock Plaza, 10131 Old Olympic Highway.
The sale includes a large collection of music CDs, “Automobile Quarterly” books and children’s books (including “Harry Potter” and “Golden Books.” Attendees are encouraged to come early for the best selection.
Hear tales, see images from Arctic trip
The Sequim YMCA, 610 N. Fifth Ave., will host “Arctic Travel: Tales & Photos from Colleen Bittner” at noon on Thursday, Jan. 12.
Bittner, a YMCA staff members, recently traveled to the Arctic and returned with some photographs and stories to share.
The event is free to YMCA members; non-members pay a day-use fee.

Learn about Feldenkrais Method at series session
The next in the North Olympic Library System’s (NOLS) Intentional Aging series — a monthly discussion group for adults — explores the Feldenkrais Method, a system of learning and self-improvement using sensory awareness.
Join Dr. Katherine Wieseman as she leads participants through a Feldenkrais session on Zoom at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Wiseman is a Sequim-based Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. “She seeks to help others experience the fullest potential of their existence using methods that are holistic, experiential, multi-sensory and interactive,” program organizers say.
The Intentional Aging topics and practices through book discussions, activities, presenters and more. Meetings are held at 11 a.m. the third Tuesday of each month on Zoom. Attending monthly is encouraged, but all are welcome to join any meeting.

OPAS group to host members photo night
The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Dungeness River Nature Center’s Rainshadow Room, 1943 West Hendrickson Road.
Society members will share their unique views of birds and their behaviors.
The program is free and open to the public.
Speaker series spotlights Lake Ozette’s ecology
Olympic National Park’s Perspectives Winter Speaker Series continues at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, with “Lake Ozette: An Ecological Update,” with Patrick Crain, a fisheries biologist with Olympic National Park.

Crain will discuss the health and status of the Lake Ozette freshwater ecosystem. Home to a unique population of Sockeye salmon listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and the endemic Ozette Mud Minnow, the freshwater ecosystem of Lake Ozette is under threat.
Invasive clams, degradation of shoreline habitat, and changes in predator behavior are among the impacts that are being evaluated.
Crain will also share some actions that the park and volunteers are taking to mitigate these impacts and help the lake.

Learn all about ‘Archaeological Enigmas, Intrigues’
The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library, in collaboration with the North Olympic History Center, hosts “Archaeological Enigmas and Intrigues” — part of the Learning Our Landscape series — at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, with archaeologist Gary Wessen.
Wesson has been conducting research on the North Olympic Peninsula for more than 40 years. In this talk, he will share his conclusions and lingering questions about a historical site on Kitchen-Dick Road in Sequim and a prehistorical inter-tidal site near West Twin Creek.

Genealogical group to host guest lecturer
Guest lecturer Claudia Breeland offers “Finding and Using Historic Newspapers” at the next Clallam County Genealogical Society, set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Breeland is a professional genealogist, author and lecturer. She will share her experience to illustrate how she has found missing ancestors and answers to questions about the lives they led — answers found in newspapers. Attendees will learn about the many online newspaper databases, both free and by prescription, as well as how to obtain news articles not found online.
News articles may include birth and death announcements, marriage, anniversary and baptism announcements, awards, travelers, parties, and visiting firemen, civil and criminal judgements, advertisements for your ancestor’s business, and so much more.

VHOCC to host grief support group
Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) is sponsoring a five-week in-person grief support group from 1-3 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 19-Feb. 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave.
Organizers say the group offers a place for participants to share their feelings and experiences with grief, gain a
clearer understanding of the mourning process and learn coping skills and strategies for dealing with the emotional pain of loss.

Toddler Prom set for Feb. 11
The Toddler Prom is back on the Peninsula in 2023.
Toddlers (ages 0-6) and parents/guardians are invited to the Olympic Peninsula Toddler Prom, set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
There is no admission fee.
The vent includes an “epic” dance party (with strobe lights), pizza and snacks, craft table, face painting, photo booth with props, surprise guests and more.
Toddlers can get dressed up at the event’s hair, nails (nail stickers), and a make-up (pretend make-up) station as well.
