Rookard fundraiser set
First Federal is sponsoring the Willy Rookard Family Support Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, in the First Federal parking lot at 1201 W. Washington St., Sequim. There will be a car wash, bake sale and raffle to raise funds for Willy Rookard’s continuing treatment from injuries sustained in Mexico. All donations are sincerely appreciated. If you are unable to attend, there is a fund set up at any First Federal branch, a GoFundMe account and Caring Bridge account online.
Amending county code is topic at July 20 meeting
The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The agenda includes proposed amendments to Clallam County Code, adding a new chapter regarding zoning of vacation rentals and bed & breakfasts. The agenda also includes a proposed amendment the county’s land use and zoning map of 17.9 acres just north of the Port Angeles Urban Growth Area.

Guild to host garage sale
The Sequim Guild Seattle Children’s Hospital Garage Sale will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Sunday, July 22-24, 81 Timothy Lane, Sequim. There will be outdoor plants, yard art, indoor and outdoor furniture, dishes, books, home decor, pictures, small appliances, clothes, shoes, sporting goods, toys, games and jewelry. All monies go for uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Harbinger Winery benefit for PFOA set
Enjoy a “purrfect” evening and support the rescues of Peninsula Friends Of Animals from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Harbinger Winery, 2358 West Highway 101 in Port Angeles. “Meowsic” is by the iconic Bread & Gravy band. Available for tasting are Mount Townsend Creamery artisan cheeses and fudge by WeDo Fudge. Wine, beer and Bedford sodas are available for purchase. Admission is by donation. Raffles for gift baskets and PFOA potholders also will be available. A generous portion of the evenings proceeds will be donated including a special bottling of “Meowrlot.”
Free lunches at St. Luke’s
Even when the sun is shining, everyone always can use comfort food. To that end, every Wednesday at noon members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church prepare a free homemade lunch. Everyone in the community is invited for a bowl of soup, a salad and dessert. St. Luke’s is at 525 N. Fifth Ave. in Sequim; parking in the front and rear.

Weed Warrior Wednesday

Trinity dinner planned
A free community dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The meal includes barbecued chicken, potato salad, vegetables, coleslaw, dessert and beverages. PT science center seeks nominations for award
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is seeking nominations for the 2016 Eleanor Stopps EnvironmentalLeadership Award. This award recognizes significant contributions in the protection and stewardship of the North Olympic Peninsula natural environment. Soroptimist International of Sequim is accepting applications until Aug. 15 for its $2,000 Continuing Education scholarships for women. Applicants must be Sequim High School graduates or have a legal address within the Sequim School District, must have completed one year of post-secondary education and must be continuing their education in the fall of 2016. Genealogy class set
Learn the basics of how to find your ancestors in the next “I Know Nothing About Genealogy” free class provided by the Clallam County Genealogical Society on Saturday, July 30, at the CCGS Research Center’s Open House, from noon-4 p.m. Everyone is invited to come see the facility, do some Saturday research, or have a cup of coffee and munchies. The class is from 1:30-3 p.m. The Research Center is at 402 E. Lauridsen Blvd. in Port Angeles.
