‘Project Lifesaver’ in club’s spotlight

Join Sequim Bay Yacht Club members at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, for its general meeting presentation by Linda Spreine of the Sequim Police Department, in the upper floor meeting room at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road. The public is welcome.

Spreine’s topic is “Project Lifesaver,” a technology that was developed to help law enforcement locate people who tend to wander due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism and traumatic brain injury.

She will demonstrate the waterproof transmitter bracelet that clients wear explain the police department’s receiver equipment to track the client’s specific frequency and location.

Great Diaper Drive starts Sept. 23

In a continued effort to support families and infants in the community, First Step Family Support Center is partnering with local businesses for Great Diaper Drive, running from Sept. 23-Oct. 13.

The event begins with National Diaper Need Awareness Week (Sept. 23-29), and donations are being accepted at partner locations through Sunday, Oct. 13.

This event partners with local banks and aims to gather essential diaper supplies and donations to support families in need and make a tangible impact on the lives of local children.

Sequim donation sites include: 1st Security Bank Sequim, 114 S. Sequim Ave.; Chase Bank, 680 W. Washington St. Ste. D; Key Bank, 120 N. Dunlap Ave.; Sound Community Bank, 645 W. Washington St.; and, Sound Community Bank, 990 E. Washington Street Ste. F.

For those who prefer to contribute financially, online donations can be made through a secure donation portal at FirstStepFamilySupport.org/donate. Additionally, cash donations can be accepted at 1st Security Bank and will be matched up to $1,000. These donations will directly benefit the more than 900 families in the community that access diapers from First Step Diaper Bank locations, organizers said.

Volunteers are needed to help sort, pack and distribute the collected items. Interested individuals can sign up by emailing info@firststepfamilysupport.org.

Reading for ‘Chaos Comes Calling’

The Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road, hosts a reading of “Chaos Comes Calling: The Battle Against the Far-Right Takeover of Small-Town America” by Sasha Abramsky from 6-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14

Live Your Dream awards available

Soroptimist International of Sequim (SIS) announces that applications for the Live Your Dream Awards are now being accepted.

The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award (LYDA) program is an education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The LYDA program gives women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects, Soroptimist representatives said.

Sequim Library Friends group sets sale

The Friends of the Sequim Library hosts a sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept.14, at its Rock Plaza location, 10175 Old Olympic Highway. The annex area opens at 9 a.m.

The event features a Teachers Appreciation Sale (educators receive a voucher valid for the September sale).

Featured specials include books of interest to teachers and games, Pacific Northwest hiking, self-help, architecture, animals/animal fiction, music biographies, and “Great Courses” on DVDs. The group will also offer $1 per bag specials in the annex, starting at noon.

KSQM pet party slated for Saturday

KSQM 91.5 FM’s annual “Music Where You Bark” pet celebration is set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the James Center for the Performing Arts/Carrie Blake Community Park, 506 N. Blake Ave.

The event includes “furry friends,” activities and vendors, with live music from Jean Lenke and Jean Therapy West at 2 p.m.

Office open to help disabled veterans

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) office at the Sequim Museum & Arts administration building at 544 N. Sequim Ave., is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every Wednesday to serve veterans who are needing help with claims or other information.

Services are free and veterans do not have to be members of DAV to receive assistance. The office is by walk-in; no appointment is necessary. For more information, call 360-775-6482.

Farm Tours fest set in Chimacum

A celebration of the 22nd-annual Jefferson County Farm Tours is set for noon-6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, in the hay barn and patio at Finnriver Farm & Cidery, 124 Center Road, Chimacum.

Organizers are hosting farmers and makers that work with materials that they grow, acquire from local farms, forage or are inspired by nature.
