Shelter Providers meet today
The Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County will meet from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Proposed changes to the Uniform Building Code to guide construction of tiny houses, 400 square feet or less, will be reviewed, continuing the discussion of ways to increase the supply of a affordable housing and services. County commission to examine Carlsborg zoning
The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The meeting agenda includes a public hearing regarding draft updates to the Clallam County Comprehensive Plan, including proposed amendments to the Comprehensive Plan Land Use Map and Zoning Map for the 560-acre Carlsborg Urban Growth Area. MOPS meeting set
MOPS of the Olympic Peninsula hosts chef Jeff Cameron as its featured speaker at the group’s Oct. 20 meeting, set for 9-11:30 a.m. at Fairview Bible Church, 385 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles. MOPS is a nonprofit group of moms with children of ages 0-6. The meeting includes brunch and snacks, creative activities and a chance to share advice and information. OPHS to have low-cost microchip/license clinic
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society will hold a low-cost microchip and license clinic from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the shelter, 1743 Old Olympic Highway, Port Angeles. Cats and dogs living in Clallam County are required by law to be licensed. Proceeds from license sales are used by OPHS to care for the animals at the shelter.
Residents of Clallam County can purchase a microchip and lifetime license for just $50 during the clinic. This is a savings of $35. To qualify for a lifetime license, pets must be spayed or neutered.
Individual prices for the clinic are microchip: $20 including chip and registration. The cost is normally $35; licenses: $10 for one year, $40 for lifetime. The lifetime cost is normally $50.
Fairview Grange is serving up breakfast
Fairview Grange, 161 Lake Farm Road, Port Angeles, will have a pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, serving all the pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, milk and coffee you want for $10. Children under 12 are free with an adult. For more information, call Patti Morris at 461-9008.
NDLSA plans annual meeting
The New Dungeness Light Station Association will hold its annual general meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. in Sequim. This year’s speakers, Fred S. Blomshield and Cynthia M. Privoznik, will share stories about being modern day lighthouse keepers at Seguin Island Light Station, Maine; Battery Point Light Station, California; Big Sable, Little Sable and Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouses in Michigan.
They have been keepers at the New Dungeness Light Station many times. There will be refreshments, door prizes and items for the silent auction. Raffle tickets will be available to purchase as well as a variety of New Dungeness Lighthouse merchandise.

OPA group to host fundraising dog wash
The Olympic Peninsula Academy’s Parent-Teacher Organization hosts a fundraiser dog wash from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Blissie’s Bonetique, 459 W. Washington St., Sequim.
Dog washing/drying are by donation; nail-clippings are $5. All donations will go to benefit OPA program, supplies and events for the 2016-2017 school year. Peach, Johnson to speak to RWCC Oct. 22
The Republican Women of Clallam County will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at Clallam County Republican Party headquarters, 509 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.
District 3 Clallam County Commissioner Bill Peach and Independent candidate for District 2 Clallam County Commissioner Randy Johnson will speak about the importance of county commissioners.
The RWCC also will pack another round of shoebox gifts to mail to people with local connections who are serving overseas in the U.S. military. A list of needed items is posted at rwclallamcounty.org. RWCC meetings are open to all interested people. There is no charge.
Masons invite first responders
The Port Angeles Masonic Lodge No. 69 offers a free pancake breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the lodge, 622 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.
The breakfast is open to all emergency response personnel and their families, including those in law enforcement, firefighting, Customs, Border Control, first responders/EMTs/paramedics, U.S. military veterans and U.S. Park Service and U.S. Forest Service employees. General admission for the public is $5.
Libraries closed Oct. 24
All North Olympic Library System locations will be closed on Monday, Oct. 24, to allow staff to attend an in-service training day. Library branches in Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Clallam Bay Library will reopen at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. Due dates have been adjusted to prevent late fees from incurring during the closure.
Trinity hosts dinner
A free community dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The meal includes meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, green salad, dessert and beverages. Reservations are required and may be made by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by email to dinnerstumc@aol.com. The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.

Armstrong to speak at hospital guild meeting
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild will hold its monthly speaker series and business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the community hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave. in Sequim.
The public is invited to the first portion of this meeting and will feature Kia Armstrong, manager of Nash’s Organic Produce Farm, who will speak on the “seed bank” and history of farming methods in the area. A short recess will follow her talk, followed by the business meeting of the guild. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Name that park
The Clallam County Parks, Fair and Facilities Department is asking for input on naming a new disc golf park in the Blyn area. Deadline for name proposals is Oct. 30.
The Parks Advisory Board will select a name at a future meeting. Park name suggestions should reflect a distinctive feature of the area or the county, e.g., Salt Creek, Cline Spit, etc.

The park’s completion is anticipated early next year.
