Shellfish warning out for Sequim Bay
The Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services, Environmental Health Division, announced last week Sequim Bay is closed to all species of shellfish harvesting because of Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning biotoxins. Call 800-562-5632 for more information.
Commissioner forum set
The Clallam County League of Women Voters will present its last forum for primary candidates from 6-8 p.m. today, July 16, at the Port Angeles Senior Center. All three candidates running for county commissioner will be there to answer questions from the moderator and the public. Announcements will be made concerning the general election debates and forums after the primary on Aug. 5.
Commission to meet
The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. tonight, July 16, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Agenda items include a rezone submittal for property just west of Port Angeles. Call 417-2277.
Guild thrift shop open
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop at 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 19. Featured this month are summer fashions, kitchen and household articles, furniture, jewelry, purses, furniture, books and pictures. Consignors and volunteers always are needed. Town hall with McEntire
Clallam County Commissioner Jim McEntire hosts a town hall meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, July 21, at the Sequim Library meeting room, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
The meeting is an opportunity for citizens living in District I (Sequim) and others who would like to talk with McEntire. Call 417-2236.
Talk on lung health
On Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m., Olympic Medical Cancer Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance will present an educational discussion on lung health featuring Douglas Wood, MD, professor, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Endowed Chair in Lung Cancer Research at the University of Washington, and Bernardo Goulart, MD, MS, medical oncologist at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Red Cross seeks heroes
The American Red Cross is seeking nominations for its annual Olympic Peninsula Heroes Dinner. During this process, it is open to receiving any and all stories that may lead to a Hero nomination. Hero nominations are in the following categories: animal, community partnership, CPR/AED, water, fire, medical, military, nature, pet, police, youth preparedness and youth. Walk for Life
On Saturday, July 26, form a team and run/walk/stroll with friends from Hollywood Beach in Port Angeles in the 5k Walk for Life event, set for 4 p.m. Cost is a $10 registration fee. Olympic Coast sanctuary marks anniversary
Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary celebrates its 20th anniversary of designation during the free Concert on the Pier from 6-8 p.m. today, July 16, at Port Angeles’ City Pier. The free, family friendly event features education booths with hands-on activities, a life-sized inflatable orca whale, Sanctuary Sam the Sea Lion, marine debris art sculptures and a remotely operated vehicle demonstration. The band Luck of the Draw performs live bluegrass music.

Community sing-along set at P.A. Library
Get ready to sing at a family friendly community sing-along and campfire behind the Port Angeles Library, 2210 Peabody St., at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 18. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Music is led by local musicians Dan and Carrie Cobb. Children will have an opportunity to see a fire truck up close and visit with local firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 2.
Head Start picnic planned
The first annual Head Start reunion will be from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Carrie Blake Park by the playground. All parents, children, grandparents and staff that have been involved with the program are invited to attend.
