Comissioner’s town hall set
Jim McEntire, Clallam County commissioner for Commissioner District I, will have a town hall meeting at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 4 p.m. Friday, April 3. There’s no specific agenda — it’s an opportunity for residents to share their concerns and comments on county government.
Planning commission meets
The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. today, April 1, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The agenda includes the Draft November 2014 Clallam County Shoreline Master Program.
Thrift shop open Saturday
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds Thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 4. Featured this month are spring fashions for everyone, shoes, jewelry, furniture, kitchenware, book and puzzles and lots more. All white-tagged items will be marked half price. Container gardening on tap
The Sequim Prairie Garden Club meets at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, at the clubhouse in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., and welcomes spring with “Easy and Classy Container Gardening” presented by Diana Politika, owner of The Greenhouse in Port Angeles.

Park free days set
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will offer two “free days” in April. Visitors will not need to display a Discover Pass for day-use visits to state parks. The two dates are Saturday, April 4, and Wednesday, April 22, Earth Day. A Discover Pass is required to access WDFW and DNR Lands on State Parks free days.
Newcomers meet in P.A.
The Newcomers’ Club of the Olympic Peninsula will hold its April luncheon meeting on Tuesday, April 7, at the Red Lion in Port Angeles. Socializing begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch. Barbara Paschal, retired physical therapist and educator, will speak on how to heal and manage stress, chronic diseases and hypertension. Elections for the board of directors also will be held. Red Cross seeks volunteers
Would you like to help your community in the face of disasters? The American Red Cross is looking for new volunteers. Stop by one of its information sessions to learn how the Red Cross is involved in your community.
The new volunteer information session will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the Sequim Red Cross office, 151 Ruth’s Place; and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Port Angeles Library in the Coffey Meeting Room.

Scouts offer lawn aeration
As a fundraiser, Sequim Boy Scout Troop 1498 offers lawn aeration services Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12. Cost is $50 for up to one-quarter acre. Owners need not be home for the service but need to have lawns mowed, underground sprinkler heads marked and dog waste picked up. Make checks payable to: Boy Scout Troop 1498.

Trial Microsoft Office talk
Strait Mac User’s Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. The subject will be Microsoft Office and the speaker will be Jerry Freilich, the club’s president. In March, Microsoft announced a trial version of its latest offering “Office 2016” available for free download. Freilich has been trying out the new version, so come hear about it.
Democrats discuss EWTT
Clallam County Democrats will hear from former County Commissioner Ron Richards and others regarding the U.S. Navy’s proposal for an Electronic Warfare Training and Testing program in Olympic National Forest at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Democratic Headquarters, 124-A First St., Port Angeles. Discussion and a question and answer period will follow.

PFOA to hold benefit
Peninsula Friends of Animals, a donor supported, nonprofit, no-kill animal welfare organization, invites the public to “Catnip and Sip,” a tea, fashion show and silent auction from 1-4 p.m. April 18, at the Elks Naval Lodge, 131 E. First St., Port Angeles.
Tickets are $35 — purchase by April 10 at PFOA, by mail: PO Box 404, Sequim, at Heather Creek in Sequim or the Elks Naval Lodge in Port Angeles.
