Board to talk marijuana

Autumn is the topic at photo club meeting
Olympic Peaks Camera Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, Sequim. Roy Kropp will be discussing “Autumnal Variations.” Kropp will show his images contrasting autumn in Michigan with autumn on the Olympic Peninsula.
Coast sanctuary board plans review
NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary will host a meeting of the Sanctuary Advisory Council from 9:50 a.m.-3:30 pm. Friday, Jan. 23, in Room 160 in the Clallam County Courthouse.
The agenda includes a discussion of work accomplishments in 2014 as wells as priorities for 2015. The advisory council will vote on several items, including letters of recommendations supporting Intergovernmental Policy Council’s Habitat Framework efforts, identifying potential locations of a sanctuary education kiosk near the sanctuary and more
The advisory council also will receive briefings on OCNMS’ 2014 field season, the state’s Marine Spatial Planning Process and an update on Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team activities. The meeting is open to the public, with a public comment period at 2:50 p.m.
Kilmer town hall on tap

OMC board meets
Olympic Medical Center’s board of commissioners meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Linkletter Hall in the basement conference area of Olympic Memorial Hospital, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.
The agenda includes, among other items, consideration of support for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center (SARC) levy proposal.
Clallam Sheriff’s office names new employee
Sheriff Bill Benedict announces the hiring of the newest member of Corrections, Lisa Gale. She will serve in the position of control room technician.
Gale moved to Washington in 1995 and resides in Sequim with her husband and three daughters. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology and is very excited to be a part of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
Center offers corvids class
The Dungeness River Audubon Center in Railroad Bridge Park presents a class from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, on local ravens, crows and jays. Bring your questions and stories about these intelligent, crafty and sometimes pesky birds. The cost is $10.

Explorers take a hike
The Olympic Peninsula Explorers invites community members to join them in a 9 a.m. breakfast meeting followed by a 6- or 10-kilometer walk at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. The breakfast is at Priscilla’s Cruise In Café, 2341 East Highway 101, Port Angeles.
The Port Angeles Waterfront walk starts at William Shore Memorial Pool, 225 E. Fifth St. The walk is free unless one wishes to get credit from the American Volkssport Association. All walkers must sign up prior to the walk.

SARC director at guild
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild will hold its monthly speaker series and guild business meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the community hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the first portion of the meeting featuring guest speaker Scott Deschenes, SARC director, and Susan Sorensen, former board member. A short video on current services will be shown. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Pancake breakfast helps with grange’s grounds
Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, hosts a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. In addition to pancakes, the menu includes ham, eggs and beverages. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and younger.
Proceeds will be used for maintenance on the grange’s building and grounds.
Serenity House sets annual meeting
Serenity House of Clallam County’s annual board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Tempest Building, 535 E. First St., Port Angeles.
New officers will be elected at a brief business meeting followed by a reception, presentation of the 2014 Annual Report, introduction of new Executive Director Kim Leach and presentation of awards to volunteers.
The public is welcome.
Grange to host school bond forum
Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, holds a public forum on the Sequim schools building bond at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, with Superintendent Kelly Shea presenting information and answering questions. Light refreshments will be served.
Community dinner set
A free community dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The meal includes meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, desserts and beverages.
Reservations, requested to ensure that enough food is prepared, may be made by calling 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by e-mail to dinners@sequimtumc.org.
The dinners are on the last Thursday of each month.
