Family bingo night set

Sequim Prairie Grange invites the public to a family game night of bingo at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. Prizes will be based on a “Food” theme. Snacks will be provided. The grange hall is at 290 Macleay Road.

All Grange events are open to the public and everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Joy at 683-7021.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announces Saturday, Sept. 27, is a state parks “free day.” Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks.

The Discover Pass still is required to access lands managed by WDFW and DNR on these days.

“Free days” apply only to day use, not overnight stays or rented facilities.

Washington State Parks will have one more “free day” in 2014: Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day.

 

Dinner/school fundraiser set for Sept. 27

The Sons of Italy and the Queen of Angels Parents Club will be hosting an Italian dinner Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Queen of Angels gym from 4-7 p.m. to benefit tuition assistance for Queen of Angels School.

The group, The Old Sidekicks, will be providing entertainment during the dinner.

Tickets are available for presale at the school office and prices are $12 per adult, $8 children K-8th grade or $38 per family. Children under 5 eat free.

Tickets also may be purchased at the door the day of the dinner for $15 per adult, $10 children K-8th grade or $45 per family.

 

Candidate meet, greet set

Clallam County Republican candidates will discuss their campaign platforms, answer questions and greet members of the community from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in the basement of Blue Sky Real Estate, 190 Priest Road, Sequim.

Candidates attending are Bill Peach, Marty McClendon, Mark Nichols, Will Payne and Rick Porter. The public is welcome.

 

Pilots gather for talk

The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 430’s next meeting is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Hangar 10 at the Sequim Valley Airport, 468 Dorothy Hunt Lane. Jim Barnfather, District 3 Fire Commissioner, is the speaker.

The meeting program is “Aviation Fire Safety & Extinguisher Class.”

 

Seeking fair royalty

The Clallam County Fair Royalty is seeking candidates for the 2015 Court. Applications for the 2015 Clallam County Fair Royalty program are available at area high schools and on the web at the Clallam County Fair website under forms and applications at www.clallam.net/fair/forms.html.

The fair royalty court is open to all public school, home-schooled and private school students grades 10-12 (ages 16-18) who have a GPA of 2.6 or better and who reside in Clallam County. An orientation meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, in the fairgrounds kitchen.

Bring a parent/guardian, a completed application form, sponsor fee and a sealed copy of a high school transcript. Call Christine Paulsen, Clallam County Fair Royalty chairman, at 461-1866.

 

Octopi topic of talk

The Feiro Marine Life Center will hosts a talk by noted diver and octopus expert Jim Cosgrove at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at Room 205 in The Landing Mall, 115 Railroad Ave., Port Angeles. Tickets $7 at the door or free for current Feiro members and volunteers.

Titled “No Mother Could Give More: The Life of the Giant Pacific Octopus,” Cosgrove’s underwater photography and videography demonstrates the lifecycle of the creatures.

 

Recycle electric items

The Olympic Peninsula Bluebills are sponsoring an electrical, electronic and appliance recycling day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Sequim Valley Nazarene Church, 481 Carlsborg Road, Carlsborg, in cooperation with EcycleNW.

All household items powered by electric cord or battery are recyclable and many items will be recycled free of charge. These items require a $30 fee: refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners.

The Bluebills will pick up large items such as large TVs and appliances but ask for a $10 donation for the service. Arrange pickup by Thursday, Sept. 25, by contacting Charlie Johnson at racer6J@hotmail.com or 360-797-1636. Pickups will be on Sept. 27.

 

Say no to sugar, overeating

Greysheeters Anonymous presents “Kick the Sugar Habit” from 5-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church parish house, 923 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim. Two speakers will discuss how to abstain from alcohol, sugar, grains and starches.

GreySheeters Anonymous also hosts a speaker’s meeting from 5-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church parish house, for anyone who has a problem with compulsive overeating.

Grange breakfast set

Sequim Prairie Grange will have a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. The menu consists of pancakes, eggs and ham. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children age 10 and younger. Some proceeds from the breakfast will benefit TAFY (The Answer for Youth).

 

Nonprofit spay group lowers prices

Spay To Save, a mobile spay and neutering clinic, announced recently it will be doubling its spay and neutering clinics.

Fees for male cats are $10, female cats $20, and all dogs $30. Clinics are held in various locations, times and dates.

Senior Nutrition menu

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
