Stock up at garage sale
The Clallam County Genealogical Society hosts a Spring Cleaning Garage Sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday-Saturday, May 23-24, at 601 E. Park St., Port Angeles.
Rally rescheduled
May 17’s Young Eagle Rally was scrubbed because of poor weather. The rally has been postponed to Saturday May 24, at the Sequim Valley Airport. Parental permission is required.
Volunteers needed on Memorial Day weekend
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1024, Port Angeles, is looking for volunteers to assist in decorating the graves of deceased veterans for Memorial Day. Small flags will be placed at 8 a.m Saturday, May 24, at Ocean View and Mount Angeles cemeteries. Anyone interested in helping should be at the cemetery of your choice at 8 a.m.; a post member will provide you with flags and instructions. On Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, the post displays U.S. burial flags on poles along the driveways at each cemetery starting at 7 a.m., volunteers are needed to help put up the flagpoles and then return at 4 p.m. to take them down. Get tickets for gala
In support of the Shipley Center’s capital campaign for a new senior center, the public is invited to its third annual Gala Fundraising Banquet and Auction at 5 p.m. Friday, May 30, at 7 Cedars Casino. Tickets are $50 or sponsor a table for $400. A no-host bar and dancing will be available. To donate items for the auction, bring them to the center’s front desk or leave a message at 683-6806.
Boating safety class set
The Coast Guard Auxiliary will be having a boating safety class from 6-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 30-31. It will qualify all who pass the class with a Washington State Boating Safety card, which is now required for all individuals 59 years and younger. The class will be held at the Rainbow Ends RV Park recreation room, 261831 Highway 101, Sequim, (by Sunny Farms Market).

Community dinner on tap
A free community dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.
The meal includes oven barbecued chicken, baked beans, vegetables, fruit salad, desserts and beverages.
Reservations, which are requested to ensure that enough food is prepared, may be made by calling the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by e-mail to dinners@sequimtumc.org.
The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.
Horticulture workshop planned for May 31
A Hugelkultur (hill culture) workshop will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Fifth Street Community Garden in Port Angeles.
Led by Meggan Uecker, WSU Clallam County Extension waste reduction coordinator and Clallam County Master Composters, attendees will learn the art and science of this technique through hands on participation in building Clallam County’s first public Hugelkultur demonstration. Learn how you can use this innovative, easy, low maintenance gardening technique for your own home or garden.

Septics 101 class
Clallam County Health and Human Services Environmental Health Section will be holding a Septics 201/DIY class from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Clallam County Courthouse public meeting room #160.
The class is for homeowners who wish to become certified to inspect their own septic system. Pre-registration for the class is required. Sanctuary seeks applicants
NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary is seeking applicants for two positions on its advisory council. The sanctuary is accepting applications for the education alternate seat and the marine resources committee alternate seat.
Applications are due June 30.
