SARC offers health talk
The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center will have a free health talk in the gymnasium from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, featuring community educator and heart health expert Judy Tordini.
She has over 30 years of experience with cardiac health education and her presentation is part of SARC’s Health Talk Series, where health experts from around the area are brought in to talk about wellness issues affecting members of the community. No reservations are required.
New discussion group begins
The DUCK Discussion will commence at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 4, at the Rainshadow Coffee Company, 157 W. Cedar St., Sequim, and will continue weekly thereafter.
Hosted by local writer George Lindamood, the group is billed as “A Shared Exploration of the Second Half of Life.” Using Lindamood’s 2012 novel, “The Accidental Peacemaker,” as a point of departure, the discussion will help participants “find their duck” by focusing on lessons learned — actual experiences, especially defeats and disappointments — that can make one’s latter years qualitatively different and more satisfying.

Planning commission to meet on shoreline plan
The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 4, at John Wayne Marina, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road. The meeting includes a Regional Public Hearing of the Draft Clallam County Shoreline Master Program (SMP).
The commission also will hold regional public hearings on Feb. 12 in Sekiu and Forks and Feb. 18 in Port Angeles. The Draft SMP and information is available at the Clallam County Department of Community Development, Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Workshop on oil spills
The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee will have a workshop from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Port Angeles City Council chambers, 321 E. Fifth St. The workshop will cover such topics such as what happens when a major spill occurs near area shores, who is in charge and how volunteers can help when oil is spilled.
Bee talk set in Gardiner
The Gardiner Wild Birds Unlimited store invites the public to one of two presentations on the orchard mason bee. The first class will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, and the second class will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. Christie Lassen will be giving an hour-long talk on the benefits of the mason bee and how to attract them and keep them in your garden.

OCA sets annual meeting
Olympic Climate Action will have its annual general-membership meeting from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 E. First St., Port Angeles. Agenda items include a review of 2014 activities and plans for 2015. A buffet and a raffle are included.

Those looking for a special way to show sentiments Valentine’s Day may want to consider giving parents, spouses or sweethearts a “Valogram” or singing Valentine.

‘Healthy Heart’ is WOW topic
Dr. Alexander Pan, Olympic Medical Center cardiologist, will present a free WOW! Working on Wellness Forum entitled “The Healthy Heart” at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim. The presentation focuses on cholesterol concerns, blood pressure management and exercise for a healthy heart. Pan will explain how an unhealthy heart can affect other organs will identify strategies and choices that can improve heart function.
Save the date for anglers’ Feb. 21 fundraiser
The Puget Sound Anglers/North Olympic Peninsula Chapter hosts the club’s annual fundraiser auction and dinner starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Sunland Golf and Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive. Proceeds from the auction provide the majority of funding for the annual Olympic Peninsula Kids Fishing Program, held at the Sequim water reclamation pond.
