Guild sponsors bunco benefit

The Sequim Guild will host a luncheon and afternoon of playing bunco with many silent auction items and prizes at noon, Friday, Feb. 19, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

All proceeds go to Seattle Children’s Hospital’s uncompensated care fund. The cost is $15 and the doors open at 11:30 a.m.


County planners talk GMA

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The meeting’s agenda includes an overview of the Growth Management Act update and discussion of a countywide and regional planning area demographic profile. Call 417-2277 for more information.


Free dinner at Trinity on tap

A free community dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim. The meal includes honey-lemon chicken, rice, vegetables, coleslaw, dessert and beverages.

Reservations, which are requested to ensure that enough food is prepared, may be made by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by e-mail to dinners@sequimtumc.org.

The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.


Hospital Guild speaker series features PC director

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild will present its monthly speaker series and business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the community center of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., in Sequim.

Mary Hunchberger, director of College Advancement from Peninsula College, will be talking about the scholarship recipients in the School of Nursing the guild has supported. The speaker always is first on the program and the public is invited.

A short recess will follow her presentation before the business meeting.  Coffee and light refreshments served. Call 683-7044 for more information.


Sign up for work parties

Clallam County Parks will be holding two volunteer work parties at the location of the new disc golf course on Thompson Road, one mile east of Blyn, from 9-3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, March 14.

Sequim Little League hosts tryouts, registration

Sequim Little League hosts in-person registration from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, at James Standard Memorial Field, 124 W. Silberhorn Road.

Players 9 and older should come with their gear ready for a tryout so they are placed on the appropriate team. For boys the league has division for ages 4-12; for girls, ages 4-14.

Port sets special meeting

A special meeting of the Port Commission of the Port of Port Angeles will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Port of Port Angeles Commission Meeting Room, 338 W. First St., Port Angeles.

The purpose of the meeting is to take public comment on the District 2 Commissioner candidate criteria and interview questions. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 457-8527.


Shelter network focuses on housing at Feb. 17 meeting

Affordable housing to reduce homelessness will be discussed at the Feb. 17 meeting of the Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County.

The network meets in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, from 10-11:30 a.m. Sign-in begins at 9:45 a.m. There is no charge to attend.

Reports from last month’s annual Point-In-Time count; Project Homeless Connect, coming up March 4; Port Angeles’ Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative meeting; and homelessness-related legislation and other news will round out the agenda.

Sequim school board plans workshops

The Sequim School Board of Directors has planned a series of workshops to hear departmental reports. Workshops will be held 5:30-6:20 p.m., with the regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Workshops and regular board meetings are open to the public.

Hospital Guild’s thrift shop features vintage dishware

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds Thrift Shop will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. The shop again will feature vintage Hall teapots and dishware that are all in mint condition. Additionally, there will be gently used clothing for everyone, furniture, pictures, books, fine jewelry and handbags and kitchenware.

Fitness spa ‘goes to dogs’

Fit4Life Studio, 1245 W. Washington St., will host a Yoga Welfare for Animals Guild fundraiser from 11 a.m.-1  p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20. Shelley Stratton from Bodhi Tree Yoga will be teaching a yoga class at 11 am.

Victoria Lovejoy from Ascent K9 (La Paw Spa): will be doing a dog fitness demonstration at noon. WAG representatives will be in attendance to answer questions. There also will be a few dogs there as well.

Dine to Donate for PFOA set

Peninsula Friends Of Animals will be the beneficiary of Dine to Donate at the Black Bear Diner, 1471 E. Washington St. from 8 a.m.-noon and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. A portion of all dining proceeds will support PFOA’s rescues and low-cost spay/neuter clinics. PFOA’s famous potholders and T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
