Soup’s on at St. Luke’s
About 70 members of the Sequim community arrived at noon at St. Luke’s Parish Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 27. In addition to a choice of vegetable and beef-vegetable soup, visitors got a roll and a salad of spring greens, along with a delicious cookie.
Each Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. guests will continue to find an appetizing lunch at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 525 N. Fifth Ave.
All are welcome and there is parking in the front and the rear of the building. Linda McKenzie, a new member of St. Luke’s, started a similar program in Port Townsend. She brought the idea to St. Luke’s rector, the Rev. Bob Rhodes, for a weekly free lunch which could be managed by the clergy and parishioners including Friars from the Order of St. Francis and several Little Sisters of St. Claire. Thus “Soup’s On” got started using recipes, energy and cooking skills found within the parish membership.
This project is in partnership with the Sequim Food Bank as yet another way to reach out to those who are hungry in the community.
