Learn how to prevent mail fraud from expert
The Shipley Center hosts U.S. Postal Inspector Justin Lothyan at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 11, for a presentation on how to prevent mail fraud. Topics that will be covered include foreign lottery and sweepstakes scams that target seniors, different grandparent scams, IRS scams, computer take-over scams and mystery shopper scams.
This is a free event, open to the public and all ages, and registration is not required.

Greenspace walk set in PA
Barbara Blackie, Brian Hauge and Pat Loafman will lead a free nature walk and hands-on exploration of the urban greenspace along Peabody Creek in Port Angeles on Saturday, March 12, beginning at 10 a.m., as part of an ongoing revitalization project coordinated by Feiro Marine Life Center and Friends of Peabody Creek.
Blackie and Hauge are instructors at Peninsula College; Blackie additionally teaches at the Western Washington University Huxley College on the Peninsulas while Loafman is a wildlife biologist, author, artist and musician.
Over the last four years Feiro has collaborated with several local organizations to improve the Peabody Creek watershed.

Peninsula conference on early childhood slated
Olympic Peninsula Association for the Education of Young Children will be hosting its 22nd Annual Early Childhood conference from 8-4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. There will be one keynote session and two workshop sessions. The cost ranges from $20-$65. Participants can earn a total of five Clock Hours or five STARS credit. PA PEO holds fundraiser
Chapter IV PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) will host a bunco and silent auction fundraiser at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.
Desserts and beverages will be served and prizes will be awarded. There is a $10 donation to participate. All proceeds from the event will benefit women’s education scholarships.
PEO is an international philanthropic education organization for women. The Olympic Peninsula PEO Reciprocity is made up of 13 chapters.

Blood drive set for Thursday
The Knights of Columbus and Bloodworks Northwest host a community blood drive at St. Joseph Catholic Church, at 101 E. Maple St. in Sequim, from 12:30-6:30 p.m. (closed 4:15-5 p.m. for break) on Thursday, March 17.
Donors must be in good Physical health and be at least 18 years old.

Book sale is Saturday
The Friends of Sequim Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, behind the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
This month features a large donation of music books, including sheet music, both popular and classical, instrument instruction books, encyclopedias of musical terms, composer biographies and much more. On clearance sale are nutrition, health and religion books and 33 rpm vinyl records.
Proceeds from the sale are used to fund children’s and adult programs at the library.
Benefit breakfast at grange
Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim, will have a benefit breakfast for Sequim area foster children from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the grange.
The breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, ham, juice, milk, coffee and tea and is $5 per plate.
Sequim grad party parents host planning meetings
Calling all parents of high school seniors: the parent-led group organizing the Sequim-area graduation party is hosting three more planning meetings prior to the June 10 event, one that focuses on providing recent high school graduates a drug- and alcohol-free experience.
Party planners are seeking help with decorations, food, games and fundraising.
Meetings are March 14, April 11 and May 9, and are at 6:30-7:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month in the Sequim High School library, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
The “safe and sober” graduation party is from 9 p.m.-4 a.m., June 10-11, and includes food, dancing, games and chances to win prizes. Each attendee receives a gift card of at least $50.

Riding center sets meeting
The annual membership meeting of the Native Horsemanship Riding Center, home of Peninsula Therapeutic Riding, is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the home of board president Martha Ireland, 20 Spath Road, Sequim.
Those interested in assuring that therapeutic riding lessons remain available on the North Olympic Peninsula are invited to attend.

PA Kiwanis tickets on sale
The Kiwanis Club of Port Angeles is now selling tickets for the Kiwanis Spring Auction & Dinner at 7 Cedars Casino. The event will begin at 5 p.m. April 19. Along with the live auction, a silent auction, dessert raffle, wine pull and more will be available. Shuttle service to and from 7 Cedars Casino also will be available.
Individual tickets are $50, while a table for eight is $320. Tickets can be purchased at First Federal Downtown Branch, 141 W. First St., or from any member of the Kiwanis Club of Port Angeles.

Rotary plans auction dinner
Sequim Sunrise Rotary’s annual auction dinner will be held at Sunland Country Club on Friday, March 18. This year’s theme is “Wearin’ and Sharin’ the Green.”

Easter egg hunt set
The Sequim Elks Lodge hosts its Easter Egg Hunt, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, for youths of ages 0-11.
There will be three age groups — 0-3, 4-7, 8-11 — and the Easter Bunny will be on hand, so participants are encouraged to bring a camera.

Free park day on tap
Washington State Parks turns 103 years old on Saturday, March 19, and visitors are invited to help celebrate by enjoying a state park for free that day.
The “free days” are in keeping with legislation that created the Discover Pass. The pass costs $30 for an annual pass or $10 for a one-day permit and is required for vehicle access to state recreation lands managed by Washington State Parks, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Natural Resources.
The Discover Pass legislation provided that State Parks could designate up to 12 “free days” when the pass would not be required to visit state parks.
The free days apply only at state parks; the Discover Pass is still required on WDFW and DNR lands.
Clallam marine resources committee to meet
The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee meets from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, March 21, in Port Angeles at the Clallam County Courthouse commissioners meeting room.

PA native joins United Way
Christy Smith has joined the United Way of Clallam County staff as the resource development manager, working with the annual campaign, planned giving and account relationships. She is a native of Port Angeles and a Western Washington University graduate.
Smith has been working as a public health educator and was the Tennessee advocacy organizer for Safe Routes to School National Partnership. She helped author and pass Chattanooga’s Complete Streets ordinance with regional planners, city staff and local advocates. In 2015, she was the event coordinator for Chattanooga’s first Open Streets event, raising over $10,000, working with 100 event volunteers and 100 vendors, 500 participants, 800 Facebook fans and more than 1,800 website visits.
OTA seeks actor for April production of ‘Squabbles’
Olympic Theatre Arts is seeking one male actor of any age and a Hispanic accent for what OTA members call a “small but important part” in Main Stage production of “Squabbles,” opening April 8. Call 460-4600 for more infomration or an audition.
