Community rallies at Sequim Pride celebration

Decked out in full rainbow attire, Sequim Pride’s grand marshal Michael Lowe said he’s never taken so many selfies in his life.

“It was overwhelming and wonderful at the same time,” he said.

He estimates hundreds of people visited throughout the one-day celebration’s third year on June 29 at the Sequim Farmers and Artisans Market on the Sequim Civic Center Plaza.

The event included speakers, a parade along Washington Street and more.

Lowe said seeing the event grow means he “sees growth in this town in accepting diversity.”

“For me it was about being with my family — my gay family, tribal family, biological family, and Sequim family. It was all about family that day,” he said.

Lowe, who handed over organizing duties this year, said new organizers “are carrying it forward and each year it’s going to get better and Sequim is growing with us.”
