The decision for Sequim’s next city manager is coming closer.
Human Resources Director Susanne Connelly said they received 72 applications to replace outgoing City Manager Steve Burkett who plans to retire this summer after working for the city since October 2009.
Consulting firm Baenziger & Associates will select 10-15 semi-finalists for Sequim city councilors to choose from on May 18 and on May 26 the firm will meet in executive session with the councilors where they’ll tentatively choose finalists.
Connelly said she’s also listed the public works director position vacancy following the departure of Paul Haines in late 2014. She’s received six applications so far and expects about 25 total before the May 26 closing date.
Connelly said it’s a hard position to recruit for due to its diversity of requirements but she’s sent brochures to 100 Washington cities and Burkett is helping, too.
Interim Public Works Director David Garlington said he plans to apply.
Next week also is Administrative Services Director Elray Konkel’s last week with the city following his retirement. Sue Hagener, former accounts manager, will replace him.
City Attorney Craig Ritchie announced he tentatively plans to retire at the end of the year, too, but a date hasn’t been set.
