County health department upgrades shellfish harvesting

The Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services-Environmental Health Division announced an upgrade to recreational shellfish harvesting of all species from Lyre River east to the Jefferson County line.

Shellfish harvesting remains closed in Discovery Bay and a seasonal closure of ocean beaches, while Sequim Bay and Dungeness Bay are closed to butter and varnish clams.

All species means clams (including geoduck), oysters, mussels and other invertebrates such as the moon snail. All areas are closed for the sport harvest of scallops. These closures do not apply to shrimp.
