County prosecutor backs off charges in vehicle-pedestrian death case

The Clallam County Prosecutor may bring charges against Marlene Brand of Port Angeles, a suspect in the death of a pedestrian in Port Angeles on Oct. 7, but it won’t happen anytime soon.

Deputy Prosecutor Alexandrea Schodowski said that the Washington State Patrol’s investigation of the case — including witness interviews and analysis of forensic evidence — may not be finished for three to four weeks. The prosecutor’s office is dismissing the driving under the influence case to allow for the investigation to be completed, Schodowski said, and for the filing of felony charges if supported by the investigation.

The prosecutor’s office will then review to determine a final charging decision, she said, which may include vehicular homicide.
