A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 10, for Sequim High School student Tyler Braithwaite, 17, who died Sunday, March 28, in a truck crash off Lost Mountain Road.

The service, time to be announced, will be held in the auditorium of the high school, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Braithwaite died when he swerved the Ford F-250 pickup he was driving to avoid a deer on Forest Service Road 2875 and struck a tree in the Slab Camp vicinity.

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, two passengers were injured:

• Rachel Myers, 18, of Port Angeles, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, with leg and facial injuries.

• Michael Fleming, 16, of Sequim was taken to Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, with a broken wrist and facial cuts.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Cameron said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

Crash investigators needed several tow trucks to remove the wreckage, he said.

Braithwaite’s mother Tammy Sullenger called the teenager “the biggest gentleman you’ll ever meet.

“He opened doors for women,” Sullenger said.

“If someone fell, he helped them up.”

Tyler Braithwaite “loved hunting and fishing, anything about the outdoors,” she said.

“He loved to sit by a campfire shooting the breeze with his friends. Family and friends were his everything.”

The 6-foot-3-inch teenager was “a big, gentle giant,” she said, who liked to tinker with car and motorcycle engines.

His mother added, “Tyler never knew a stranger. If there was a place he could step in and make someone’s life better, he did.

“He lived life to his fullest. It feels good to know he lived without regrets.”
