Cross country: Wolves race in Seaside’s Three-Course Challenge

Several Sequim runners posted strong finishes in Oregon last week, battling hundreds of competitors and varying course conditions at the Three-Course Challenge in Seaside on Sept. 17.

In Division II team scoring, Sequim’s boys placed fifth and SHS’s girls were seventh out of 12 teams.

Sequim’s Ash Francis placed fourth, Murray Bingham sixth and Alec Shingleton 19th to help Sequim place 20th out of 41 teams on Seaside’s “hard” course. Francis finished the hilly 5,000-meter course in 19:50, Bingham in 20:10 and Shingleton in 20:48. Among Division II runners, Francis took first, Binham second and Shingleton fifth.

The Wolves’ boys took 22nd out of 38 teams on the “moderate” course and 24th out of 38 teams on the 5k “easy” course, led by Liam Byrne (85th, 18:05).

On the girls’ side, Morgan Bingham raced to a ninth-place finish (24:20) out of 166 runners on the “hard” course; she was third among Division II runners.

Teammate Kiara Pierson was 11th (23:43) on the “moderate” course, fourth in her division, and Noelle Bittner was the top Sequim runner on the 4.5k “easy” course, finishing 37th with a 21:38 finish, seventh in her division.

The Wolves kick off Olympic League action today, Sept. 21, in Silverdale when they take on the host Olympic Trojans and and Port Townsend Redhawks.

Sequim travels to Belfair to race host North Mason and Bremerton on Sept. 28 and compete at the 21st Curtis Invite in University Place on Oct. 1.
