Darold Stenson, whose double-murder conviction was overturned by the Washington State Supreme Court on May 10, is back in Clallam County to face refiled charges of aggravated first-degree murder.

Authorities believe Stenson shot and killed his wife, Denise Stenson, and business partner, Frank Hoerner, at the Stensons’ Sequim bird farm in 1993. He was convicted and sentenced to death, but after 18 years of appeals the process is about to start all over again.

Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney Deb Kelly filed two counts of aggravated first-degree murder in Superior Court on July 18. The Washington State Department of Corrections transported Stenson from the state penitentiary in Walla Walla to the Clallam County jail at 2:44 p.m. today where he remains without bond.

Stenson will have his first appearance on the recently filed charges in Clallam County Superior Court on July 24.
