Christopher M. White, 34, of Port Angeles, was arrested Oct. 2 after a brief chase by Clallam County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Deputies were called to the Port Angeles Walmart shortly after 4 p.m. that day when security there recognized a car in the lot which was the same as one connected with a shoplifter the day before. Before deputies arrived, the car left Walmart. Deputy Matt Murphy was westbound on U.S. Highway 101 at Morse Creek when he saw the suspect and car pass by, traveling toward Sequim. Murphy pursued and stopped the car and suspect, but as he approached the vehicle it sped away. Murphy initiated a pursuit, but felt it was too dangerous to continue high speed on a rural roadway, a sheriff’s office press release said.

Not long after Murphy discontinued the pursuit, he travelled down Lewis Road, where he found the suspect’s vehicle which had collided with a power pole. Murphy arrived on the scene to find the driver missing, a female passenger out of the car and male passenger exiting the vehicle.

A short time later, Sgt. Randy Pieper of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office located the driver, identified later as Christopher M. White, a short distance away near Heuhslein Road.

White was arrested without incident on outstanding felony warrants and attempted eluding.

The passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The male passenger was released but the female was transported to the hospital.

The Washington State Patrol assisted in the collision investigation.
