A collision near Whitefeather Way led to a Sequim man and a Port Angeles teen to be sent to the hospital on Friday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers reported that Kealaonaonahookipamalahini Nunuha, 45, of Kapolei, Hawaii, was driving eastbound at 5:22 p.m. Sept. 20, on U.S. Highway 101 just west of Whitefeather Way in a 2017 Toyota Corolla, when she yielded to nearby traffic.

John Belbin, 57, of Sequim, was driving behind her in a 1996 Toyota Tacoma and struck the Corolla, according to the report.

Troopers report Belbin continued driving but lost control and struck the barrier. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder.

Nunuha and passengers Jason Verano, 49, also of Kapolei, and a 16-year-old boy passenger from Port Angeles were wearing seatbelts, with the boy sent to Olympic Medical Center for unknown injuries, the State Patrol said.

Belbin was not wearing a seatbelt and also transported to OMC for unknown injuries, troopers reported.

Representatives with OMC could not be reached by press deadline.

Belbin was booked into Clallam County Jail at 6:13 a.m. Saturday morning with a bail amount set at $1,000.

His charges for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol, and vehicular assault were released by Clallam County prosecutor’s Office on Monday, and he was released from jail the same morning.

The Department of Transportation reports the road was detoured until fully reopening the highway at 9:31 p.m. Friday.

Both vehicles were totaled in the incident.
