Two Carlsborg men were arrested on Sept. 9 in conjunction with ongoing thefts of milk and money from the Dungeness Valley Creamery off Towne Road in Sequim in the early morning hours.

Two Carlsborg men were arrested on Sept. 9 in conjunction with ongoing thefts of milk and money from the Dungeness Valley Creamery off Towne Road in Sequim in the early morning hours.

The creamery has been experiencing thefts of milk and money from an after-hour’s honor system set up by the owners. Milk in gallon and half-gallon containers are kept in a refrigerator for after-hours purchases where money for the purchases is supposed to be left.

Co-owner Ryan McCarthey witnessed the suspects taking milk and apparently money and went looking for the suspects. McCarthey found the suspects at the Carlsborg Chevron station and provided the information to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office. Sequim Police Officers John Southard and Rick Larsen assisted and caught up with the suspects at the Carlsborg Chevron station and detained them until deputies arrived.

Deputy Mark Millet arrived and the suspects were identified by McCarthey. The suspects had two one-gallon and three half-gallon containers of milk in their vehicle. The amount of money taken was about $3 in “change money” which was not recovered.

One of the suspects was found to be in possession of a small amount of black tar heroin. Arrested were Gary Starks, 52, of Carlsborg for theft in the third degree and Klell “Casey” Morgan, 64, of Carlsborg for theft in the third degree and felony possession of a controlled substance (heroin) by Corrections Deputy Alicia Newhouse.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 15, the two alleged thieves are no longer in Clallam County Jail.

In an unrelated case, Deputy Amy Bundy arrested, cited and released Cary Gallauher, 34, of Sequim for the theft of $5 from the milk fund at the honor refrigerator at the creamery Monday evening, Sept. 8.

McCarthey said they still plan to have products available for after-hours customers but it’s on hold for now until they find a better system.
