After selling out last year, Peninsula Friends of Animals has moved to larger quarters for its second annual fashion show fundraiser.

The event, which includes a luncheon and silent auction, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Naval Elks Lodge No. 353 at 131 E. First St., Port Angeles. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Cindy Caldicott of Sequim, chairwoman of the show, said the fashions from Necessities & Temptations in Port Angeles will be modeled by members and volunteers for Peninsula Friends of Animals.

The silent auction includes an antique mission-style bed and an inflatable kayak among approximately 50 items. A travel package to Victoria, British Columbia, also is in the works for the auction.

The luncheon menu will feature Asian green salad, chicken puff pastry, grilled asparagus and sparkling sorbet, with a vegetarian option available on request. A no-host bar will be open.

Peninsula Friends of Animals operates a no-cage, no-kill shelter for cats, and provides foster homes for small dogs until they can be adopted. Currently, Caldicott said, the shelter houses about 40 cats, but the number fluctuates daily.

Peninsula Friends of Animals organized 10 years ago and has operated the shelter, called Safe Haven, for five years.

Other services of PFOA include occasional spay and neuter clinics for low-income pet owners, and spay or neuter services for feral cats.

PFOA will trap the cats, spay or neuter them, and return them to wherever they came from.

Funds raised through the fashion show and auction will be used for the everyday care of animals in the shelter, Caldicott said. Last year’s event raised nearly $5,000 and although the group hasn’t set a particular goal for this year, she said that the funds raised will be very important because donations have dropped off in recent months.

Tickets for the fashion show are available at the Naval Elks Lodge and Necessities & Temptations in Port Angeles, and at Beedazzled at The Buzz in Sequim. Cost is $30. For more information, contact Caldicott at 681-8588.
