Talk about a game with meaning.

On April 28, Sequim High School’s varsity and junior varsity fastpitch squad takes on rival Port Angeles in Sequim.

The game is at Sequim High School’s fastpitch field off of Fir Street.

All four teams — varsity and JV squads from Sequim and Port Angeles — will play for cancer awareness, with players sporting “Lady Wolves Think Pink” T-shirts.

Shirts will be available for purchase for $15 each. Event organizers will also be accepting donations. Proceeds are donated to Operation Uplift.

After both games, event organizers will ask those wearing pink shirts to get on the field and form the shape of a “cancer ribbon” for a photo. Those who cannot attend the game but would like to be part of the photo can join the crowd in pink at about 6:30 p.m.

“Really (the photo) is just about awareness,” said Deon Kapetan, one of the event organizers whose daughter Hailey plays on Sequim’s junior varsity squad. “The girls wanted to do some kind of a (cancer) awareness.”

“Each of the girls will have an opportunity to pick different color of ribbon for cancer that’s affected their lives,” she said. The players will then tie those ribbons to the backstop.
