Youths in middle and high school can join staff and volunteers from Feiro Marine Life Center and the NOAA Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary to learn how to design and build remotely operated vehicles (ROV) that can be “flown” underwater.
The after-school club begins today, Oct. 14, and runs weekly from 3:30-5 p.m. until Dec. 16. The $25 fee helps offset staff time and materials for the program.
Fall semester will focus on Underwater Robotics 101, fostering skills in constructing control boxes, tethers and other critical components that make the ROVs work.
Underwater robotics are used extensively in marine research and marine trades.
Registration can be done by mail or in person.
Registration forms are downloadable at feiromarinelifecenter.org/youth-programs/ or call 417-6254.
