Filing for local office elections opens soon

The five-day candidate filing period for several local elected offices is nearly underway in Clallam County.

The five-day candidate filing period for several local elected offices is nearly underway in Clallam County.

Residents may file for candidacy in person at the Auditor’s Office, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 1 in Port Angeles, from Monday-Friday, May 16-20.

The Auditor’s Office, in the Clallam County Courthouse, is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Mailed declarations of candidacy will be accepted May 2–20.

Candidates who have an email address also may file online via the Clallam County Elections website at www.clallam.net/elections. Online filing begins at 9 a.m. May 16 and ends at 4 p.m. May 20.

Local positions open for election include:

• County Commissioner District No. 2, 4-year term

• Public Utility Commissioner District No. 1, 6-year term

• Superior Court Judge Position 1, 4-year term

• Superior Court Judge Position 2, 4-year short and full term

• Superior Court Judge Position 3, 4-year term

• Precinct Committee Officer (all precincts), 2-year terms

Candidate filing fees, regardless of filing method, must be received by the Auditor’s Office no later than 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, to complete the filing process. The Auditor’s Office accepts payment by cash or check only. Late payments are not accepted and would thus void any such filings.

Candidates filing for state or federal offices must file with the Washington Secretary of State’s Office.
